ciggarette lighter not working

not that i smoke, but its not working while trying to charge my phone.

not sure what else to check, i'm getting power to the bulb, but not the lighter portion itsself.

has anyone gone through this before?

no, its brand new. i'm not getting any reading from my multimeter either.

i'm just not sure where to strart looking.

Take the screws out of the sides of the console, Unplug the connection from the cars main harness into your lighter, and make sure the cars harness side wires are firmly planted into the attachment which plugs into the lighter side. Mine didn't used to work, but it was because the wiring going to the lighter was not planted properly, how ever the little green ring around the lighter still worked.

ok, the two red wires are the power and ground for the lights (ash tray and lighter ring). the white is the power for the lighter, and the black is the ground.

with the power on, i'm not getting any reading from the white power wire. thats what the problem is.

Ok... I have a 5th gen, so if I am wrong... sorry, check first to see if the power wire to the lighter is fused... will be on a different circuit than the lights (because they don't have to be on all the time)... if it is not fused, then you obviously have some sort of short in the wire, causing it to ground out somewhere (which you should track down). Quick fix is to conned the lighter to another 12v source underneath the dash.
