Checking the timing belt

Is there an easy way to check the condition of the timing belt without taking everything all the way apart. I have worked on older honda motors (90 and below) and i could look at it with just taking the valve cover off. So is there a simple way to make sure it is in good condition. I know if i take it to a mechanic to check it 95% chance they will say it needs to be replace even if it is in good condition.

Of course you will have to pull the valve cover off before you can check the belt. So, after that turn the crank until you can see the printing on the belt. If you can't see any or it faded away that means it time for another one. I think they due every 90k/7years. I hope that helps.

I was going to do that as well as checking out the ribs on the inside for cracks or rot. Thanks though.

What should the original belt have written on it?
