Sigh, driving home from Ocean City yesterday the Check Engine Light came on. It sucks because there's a loud clunking noise that gets louder as I step on the accelerator. Earlier, it sounded just like unlubed metal squealing (maybe the fan or something?) but now it's definately a loud clunking coming out around the alternator/engine itself. Any suggestions would be helpful, it's an H23.
Also, a friend suggested I can get the CEL code pulled for free from AutoZone, has anyone else heard of this?
I'd like to see the resonses on this too, my engine light just started coming on yesterday on my h23 but mine's been having some problems, no clunking but my idle is all messed up and jumping up and down which is probably my iac valve from what I read, but it started happening after I got a valve adjustmen so I'm not sure which is tied to which, if anyone can help just reply. How hard would it be to pull the code? I don't know anything about that??? thanks for the help and sorry for jumping in on your question but I thought it would be better than starting a new thread. later.
im not sure where to look but i do know its fairly simple (if you can count to twenty with your shoes on) its a series of blinks from a light, dont remember how it goes but it ends up being a number and you go from there
Thanks red, you rock bro. I'm going to check that out ASAP and let you guys know the verdict. Sigh, I hope it's not something major. Sometimes real life can really really depress a man especially when his bb2 is compounded into the equation.

Originally posted by mr. r00t Ah dammit, I don't have no service check peice of equipment. I'll try to get the engine check code number tomorrow and post it up. Thanks.
Pretty much no one has the diagnostic harness, its very expensive. Just pull the code and look it up, we can help from there.
First link Tim (red92s) posted. Pull it your self. All you need is a paper clip, stick it in both holes in the connector and watch the CEL blink. Then use the second link he posted, it tells you what each code means.
Sounds like rod knock to me.

I saw some info about checking the distributor (bearings, making sure its clean etc). I'll do that awhile, also any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Seems the distributor cap is cracked. I don't know if maybe that could have let in water or something to short out the CYP. You think i'd be better off getting a new cap and rotor or just a whole new distributor?
