Check Engine Light problem

I have a 94 Prelude. Auto tranny. 230,000 miles Stock H23A1. And a finicky CEL. It wont come on till Im driving down the road. Sometimes I can drive for a few miles, sometimes just a block before it comes on. Sooooo, I cant check the codes cause it has to be running. Ive already swapped out the computer, CEL still pops up. Any help?????? Thanks, JR...

Someone correct me if I'm wrong... but I think the codes get stored... Try pulling the code anyways to see what happens

My car just threw a code 12. You can search google to find articles on how to clean your EGR, that's what I've got planned to do this coming week.

It may not be the EGR valve, mine wasnt. It could be a few things. Mine was the EGR control solenoid valve. The solenoid was working but the path for the vacuum was blocked with corrosion. I tried to clean it out but it was still blocked too much. Luckily there was a used one on ebay for cheap. They are normally 100+. Code cleared right out.

Print out pages 11-153 through 11-158 of "The Manual" and take the pages with you to troubleshoot the 12 code. It really is a good troubleshooting procedure. Great manual. If you dont have the manual I can email you those pages in one PDF, sorry cant do the whole manual, its around 38meg. JR

Wow, this is a great site. Attachments are allowed. Here you go. JR
