cf body panels...

What would it take to make molds of and replace all the exterior body panels with CF replacements.... and how much weight could this save?

I know alot of the panels are already out in CF, the fenders all are i know that for sure, i really dont know how much weight it would save, not a whole lot bc the front fenders are already only like 10 pounds at most.

I dont know how you would pull of the rear quarter panel unless you got some shell of the car in cf.

Um, u can't pull out the quarter panel... most of the body panels are relatively lightweight, like the fenders. If you're thinking about bumpers, just take out the reinforcement if you are really concern about weight. The sunroof is heavy because of the motor. The doors are heavy because of the steel beam, glass and motor that sits inside. It would be relatively pointless to make anything out of CF.

hehe fenders not yet, front bumper not yet. else i would run an entire clip. but like Z mention the sunroof motor is a *****. the fornt bumper saves very lil weight. door, not too much. lexan glass would be better.

yeah the back half of the car is welded...it would be quite a project, wit minimal gains. Hoods are heavy beacause of all the bracing...fenders don't have that so they aren't that heavy

a 4th gen fender weighs about 4 pounds.. a CF one would weigh about 2.5 so for about $400.00 you could save 3 pounds..

Not really worth it IMHO.. however it you were doing it for looks then that would be a different story.

You could prob save about 8 pounds on a bumper tho..

i don't know about you guys but weight reduction is not really what I go for when I get something in carbon fiber... I love the way it looks and the bling that is gives off is quite a head turner... i think i even more so at night than during the day... I guess I'm partial to the look of it rather than the actual weight reduction. strategically placed carbon fiber can be quite sexy...

can u imagine your gf wearing carbon fiber bra and thong??

Hahaha cf bra and thong... nice...

But if you just want the look, there are people out there that can put cf overlay over your existing panels... i mean it won't save you weight or anything, but it gives you that look.

yes this is the best option.

i would say at max you can shave off 30-40 pounds if you did all that. best way would be to remove all the sound tar. and get that much weight reduction.

else if you are going all RACE. and want the lightest car, i would stick to fiberglass if your on a budget.

i wanna do c/f for the bling, but not at the outragest cost.

yeah, i'm talking about using real carbon fiber, but just laying it over the exisiting panels instead of molding a whole new skeleton

Change of subject sorry, but N8, I think you need to look into some better rims man. I mean I love the way your car looks now, but some better rims (NOT GOLD) would look much nicer I think. Just a thought.

i hear you... but I think these rims flow nicely, they are actually bronze. I think it goes with red nicely and gives it a JDM touch. but your opinion is appreciated
