Center Console Conversion

I have a 1993 prelude which has the older center console with the e-brake in the middle. I just got my 94-96 style console today and plan to do the conversion. I understand that the parking brake will have to be re-welded to the left a little bit in order to work. Can someone please fill me in on the difficulty in this? Is it safe to re-weld the parking brake in the first place? Also, I plan on buying the newer parking brake from www.hondaautomotiveparts.com and was wondering what parts I will need to buy for the full conversion. Can someone please help me out? Thanks.

I think you should take off your center console unit and take some pics underneath and then even people with some welding skills can give you a visual ... and maybe the prelude-body buff's will know where the most support would be to weld it to ..

sorry, I just like pictures a whole lot =)

I probably won't just "give up". I am doing this project. I bought the console on ebay.

When I did my interior swap, I took the new E-brake handle, and bent the tabs that the bolts normally go through down to the side, and the bolted them through the floor from underneath using bolts and lock nuts. It works like a charm, 6 motnhs and no loosening up, and the e-brake works perfectly

so you did the conversion with no welding at all?? Just a few nuts and bolts? Did you have to drill?

Yeah, fill us in EXACTLY how you did it. If I can get by this without any welding, that would be really nice. I have the new console and I still need to buy the new e-brake handle from www.hondaautomotiveparts.com. What other parts do I need to buy aside from the new e-brake handle?

Has there ever been an update on this? The idea of not having to weld the ebrake in is great..... I also want to know how the parking brake cable was attached.

Sweet...... that looks good. Got my stuff on the way and I just wanted some assurance that it would indeed go in w/o welding.

awesome , thanks for posting this ..

this doesnt make sense though, can somebody elaborate?:

5. Once you have them (new bolt holes for e-brake) marked, drill holes for your bolts. You should go through two sheets of metal. Dont worry, it's alright. Now comes the tricky part. In order to secure the nuts onto to bolts, you will need to find the spot on the console directly above or to the side of the bolt holes you drilled. And dremel out a square large enough to hold a nut through. So you can correctly bolt them in.

It seemed to me that it meant you needed a way to get a wrench on the other side of the bolt, so you had to drill another hole. I don't know why it had to be square. Now, you could get around this if you have really long arms, and you can simultaneously reach under your car, and tighten the bolt from inside the car as well.

Or if you had two people.

I've been planning this swap for a while now, and I would seriously recommend getting the actual 94-96 ebrake cables. Because of the positioning of the new ebrake, your old cable won't be long enough. I'm okay with bolting the ebrake to the console instead of welding it...but I dunno about ghetto-rigging the cable.

I want this guy to elaborate more on how exactly he did his console swap. I have a 94-96 console but would like more feedback on how to do it. If he had pictures and can explain it more that would be great.

Depending on your current ... if you have the long bloc k.. use a helms for directions on removing it .. .. then you need hte 94-96 console .. most likely a direct bolt in .. and you'll need the divider for the rear seat.

then its just relocating the switches ...booya .. i want a beverage holder

ar5enal..... I was kidding about the long arms thing (guess sarcasm is lost in the written word . Anyway, I agree, I'm personally not thrilled about the "ghetto" wiring. It seems that the parking brake cables would not pull properly. It may seem that they work, but in reality you may only be pulling one side. The set up that I saw does not pull the cables evenly. I'm not sure if this can be corrected by moving the existing cables, and using high tension wire, or if 94-96 cables need to be purchased. In any case, whether or not someone knows the answer to this, I'll figure it out when I do the swap (whenever I get my console)

Parking Brake Convert

Did anyone ever get this to work with changing the cables? Did it pull evenly? Thinking about converting mine.
