I'm reading that a hi flow cat doesn't produce much except for F/I, true? Will a regular cat for around 100$(like from Jc Whitney) work as well as the oem cat. I know you all hate the same ole ques.'s but why does everyone buy hi flow if they aren't needed.
In my opinion our cars need every little bit that you can squeeze, so if a high flow cat only gives you maybe 3 horses, and it's only 100 bucks, I say go for it. I am all for cheap small Hp gains, the power will add up little by little. Also who knows, when you upgrade something it most likely will compliment something else you already have so you might get a little more than you would expect. I know I will be getting a high flow cat, when I get my exhaust.

Hey, here's to EVERYBODY... try SEARCHING this. "High" flow cats net you almost NOTHING in terms of hp gains, unless you are going FI. I hate to be a d!ck, but you REALLY need to do some research into this area. High flow cats, w/ molt-on mods will net you no extra hp.

How can that be? I had a dyno tune with no cat and exhaust, and before my vafc tune I was at 181, and when I put it them back on and dynoed it dropped to I think 175, it was around there, but I guess maybe it was just all from my exhaust being off.

Ok, but how about a cat say from JcWhitney.com that is not hi-flow? I just need a new cat and I want whatever would be sufficient or equal to the oem cat.
I bought a Carsound cat for under $100 only cause my cat was old and needed to get messed with to fit the H22 header. I'm sure it helps a tad on topend, after you have I/H/E and have an old cat.

Like someone mentioned, this has been discussed quite a few times, but since it is here now, I am going to give my input.
Replacing your stock cat after 2 miles will probably yield an insignificant gain in power. Furthermore, replacing your stock cat with a knock-off brand (JCWhitney) would most likely end up robbing Hp.
However, after a significant ammount of mileage, catalytic converters *can* become clogged and inefficient. In this case most any new cat would be an improvement.
To the original question- sorry, I dont know. I dont know the difference in the internals of the cats.. However from my experience with JC Whitney, I would not purchase something from them that I count on lasting a while. If I was in your situation I would probably try to find a stock cat from a wrecked car with low miles. Which may be a task in itself
