Carsound vs. Testpipe

Hey I've been doing alot of searches about replacing the cat, a couple things that I don't have clear is how loud is the carsound cat vs. the testpipe because I would rather have the carsound if it is not too loud. Also is it worth 80 bucks, I have 167.000 miles on my car and figured the cat would be pretty bad anyways?

thanks for your help

will

Alright thanks blkvteclude, i've also heard that if it is too much free flow then you don't get enough back pressure??? I have stock pipes with a stright through muffler do you think I will get much more hp with the test pipe

I have a carsound cat, it seems a tad louder. I'm not sure about power since I got an H22 installed at the same time.

I would say stay legal, the extra 1-2hp on the top end is not worth the risk of a fine or the smell.

Werd, no cat smells bad, I can't stand the smell. I am welding in a carsounds cat in a few days.

can someone explain to me why a testpipe 'could' decrease performance?

Too low exhaust flow velocity or as some say too little backpressure. On H22s test pipes seem to work at the track, but I would guess that unless you have a Apexi WS exhaust that is not straight through you will lose some torque.

My friend will pass my car, but a test pipe would make my car loud enough to get pulled over. Then if a cop suspects I don't have a cat due to the rotten egg smell they can easily look under the car and bamo a hefty fine.

I have the Greddy SP and 2.25 test pipe from www.testpipe.com it doesn't sound bad at all, but then again SP is a nice quiet exhaust....

I also have a test pipe from testpipe.com, i actually did feel a power gain when i put mine on, didnt have anything else done to my car when i put it on. It changed the sound like it was puttin all the back pressure at the muffler, not the cat anymore..
