carsound and random tech

From my researching I found that carsound cats are just as good as random tech cats. Cause they get the same honeycomb interior structure from the same supplier. Also I have heard that random tech cats dont fit preludes that well. My question is that the car specific fitting on preludes is based on stock exhaust size. So I guess for each one you just have to buy a universal kit based on exhaust diameter, if you have a catback exhaust ? So this means welding too?
For those who have either one, what did you do?

I have a universal cat, I assume the exhaust shop wil lneed to weld on 2.5" piping and then flanges ... which should be interesting because my cat-back greddy SP is 2.25" ... and then stock header ..
