it will start when we push it and pop the clutch but other than that it will not atart. tried new battery and new starter and nothing you hear the starter clicking like it wants to start but it just doesnt have the power the turn over the motor. i even tried running a jumper from the positive terminal to the little terminal of the starter solenoid with the ignition on and it just does the same thing. also lately my temp gauge goes all the way to full hot after about 5-10 min of running but the car is not overheating and is running just fine. anyone have any suggestions?
check the wire going to the starter, happened to mine once, it looked plugged in, but wasn't.

everything is plugged in and ok just not starting and when i do get it started the gauge is saying it is overheating but it isnt. i am going to get the alternator checked today and will update. any other ideas?
Originally posted by MidNiteMysT i heard of popping the clutch while the car is moving, but i didnt know how they did it exactly. how do you start the car by it moving?
It's simple, get the car rolling at a decent pace, with the clutch disengaged and the car in 1st gear. Then engage the clutch quickly and the wheels turn the transmission, which is now linked to the engine via the clutch, that force alone turns the crankshaft and starts the car. Basically it's the exact opposite of how the car works normally, where the crankshaft turns the fly wheel, which connects to the transmission via the clutch, which transfers the engine's power to the wheels. My starter died on my old 87 and I had to resort to push-starting the car a few times before I got it replaced.
So the motor won't turn at all when you try to start it? When you turn the key in the ignition, do you just hear one click and then no cranking whatsoever? The temperature (assuming you are correct and no damage has been caused by overheating) shouldn't have any thing to do with the car not starting, but it's definitely something you'll need to look into. Since the car is starting (through push-starts) and running ok, you have compression, so I'm guessing that whatever the problem is, it's most likely electrical. Regardless of the new battery and starter, something isn't connected properly, otherwise I can't think of anything else.
it happened clear out of the blue. it has been running fine for a while then all the sudden all this happened. i have had this tempature problem before and it turned out to be a ground for the ecu wasnt securely bolted back into place when i got it back from the body shop. but this is totally new with the starter
I'd most likely guess it iseither an electrical problem or the alternator. Do you have a sound system in your car? If you have an amp that draws more current than the alternator can emit, then it will wear out your alternator after a while, causing the car not to start.

well the alternator can be ruled out if he tried to start his car immediately after installing a new battery (as opposed to installing the battery, then driving the car from a push start for while so the battery wore down)
True, must be a loose connection somewhere then. Also, you could try pullin up the codes from the ECU to see if anything is seriously wrong first. Otherwise, you're going to have to go through all of the electrical compenents and check for corrosion, loose connections, etc. Good luck and keep us posted.

sounds like something that occured to me but it was actually the ignition module inside the steering column. Worth a shot if you've exhausted all your electrical problems like i did.
