Car won't start errrrrrr

<-that is what i feel like

i got a new battery yesterday because it was still under warranty because it has been starting SLOW almost like the battery is dying. sometimes it would start like new, but most of the time it would barely start. last night it started great when i left the store. but this morning when i was running late to school, i got in, turned the key, waited for the fuel relay to click, then turned and *nothing*. I tried it again a few more times, NOTHING. So i got a hammer and banged the starter a few times (a friend of mine told me to try that before - he did it with his; he said it would loosen up the stuff inside if it was stuck or it would pop it back into place) and then i turned to key, i could hear something try to turn then nothing. i tried a few more times, same thing. I gave up and drove the 300zx to school. Could this possibly be the starter? Its a new battery, it was starting fine, then got gradually worse. What should i check?

if it is the starter, how much are those?

Thanks in advance,
Jonathan

Wow, sounds like my story identically. I have reason to believe it is the alternator. I have jumped my car several times, and it runs for a few minutes before stalling and dying. i replaced the battery and everything was fine for a few hours (enough to get me throw Auto-X) and then it began dying. Because the car has started fine, a few times, you might want to look into it.

I think you can get a re-manufactured alternator at Auto-zone for $80-90

^ Nobody is talking a bout the belt ... talking about the actual altenator ... grab a new one (Altenator) and see if that fixes it.

pull the alternator and take it to autozone. They'll check it out for free
