I agree that diagnosing an issue before tossing parts at it is the right thing to do. I am just sharing my similar experience and resolution with him that I originally found out from my coworker, who had the same issue with his Accord, and his car and mine have been starting up fine ever since. I replaced my fuel filter first (which I was going to do regardless) and that didn't solve the issue so, that is when I started thinking it was my fuel pump, but the problem was too systematic for it to be something mechanical versus electrical in my case and that is what I believe our friend here is going through as well.
