OK, this guy at work has a 92' H23 5-speed. Only after it reaches operating temperature (needle at just below half way mark) does it have this problem. When he starts to slow down like at a stoplight, the car wants to die out. If he gives it gas it will stay running, if not if dies. He's replaces the EGR valve, PCV valve, injectors and i guess noone he's taken it to can figure it out??? i've never seen it do this or even the car for that matter so i'm just going off what he said. I guess the temp never goes above where it should, it doesn't throw a code either. Noone knows a Preludes problem like 1000's of people who own one so hopefully someone on here has had a simialr problem and knows the fix. I've never had the same problem on my 3rd or my 5th so I didn't know. Thanks
He can adjust the idle a little higher to hopefully compensate for it, so that after the FITV closes the idle will stay high enough.
However, the main culprit is probably the Fuel Pressure Regulator. If he, or someone has a spare FPR lying around try swapping it (I'd be happy to send one if he pays shipping). Also if someone has a fuel pressure gauge you can hook it up and observe where the pressure is when it's cold, then see if it changes when the engine is up to operating temp.
my 95 5 speed SI model used to die at idle too. I'd be great, then at a stop sign, or light.. bye bye../ oil light came on, and the car would simply stall out.
1.) If the oil light comes on, at idle or at a stop before it dies, then I recomend to him to use 10/30 oil, if he is running 5/30 it may just be to thin when warm to keep the car satisfied. (that was my first problem.)
2.) I had a friend whose car used to stall out at idle sometimes, we changed the fuel filter and it ran 100% again. See how long its been since the Fuel filter itself has been replaced, if it's been a while.. do so.
3.) Sometimes it can be this simple: (keep on top of the oil level,) if it's to low the pressue will drop and the car will shut off. Preludes are aparently known for consuming quite a bit of oil. If he is using synthetic oil and going long term between changes, I suggest making sure that oil stays inbetween the marks as directed in order to keep the pressure where it should be. Most people overlook this, simply because we do not "expect" our cars to be consuming that much oil.
4.) Possibly the idle control, see if you adjust the idle screw if you can get it to stay around 700 rpms after the car is fully warmed up. If not, search around for vacuum leaks.
Thats about all I can think of for now, I hope you guys figure it out. ~ Brett
Fuel filter is located on the fire wall, did you mean the fpr? I think mine was stuck too at first, i gave it a little love tap with the backside of the wratchet
