I am new to this board but I had my Prelude for quite a while. Anyway, my car got over heat on the way back home, luckily I noticed the meter was going up. I was able to pull to the gas station and added some water. First thing I noticed is that 'mud like' water was coming out from the cap. Previously, I had installed a new radiatior (2 years ago). Anyway, I refilled the radiator and headed back to the freeway but after about 2 miles of driving my meter went up again. I exited the freeway and stop by another gas station but this time I noticed that there was a lot of water coming from under the throttle body and base of the air filter intake. I am not sure what's going on. What do you guys thing I need to replace. I haven't taken it to the mechanic, just had to toll my car back to my house because it was too late in the night. Any suggestion would be helpful.
Just check all of your hoses. Mine did the same thing. I just had all of my hoses replaced. That is a good idea and it shouldn't be too expensive. After you do that if there is still a problem then I would take it to a mechanic. Why pay if you you don't have to.
I'll do that once I get home. It's really hard to reach but I'll give it a try to save myself some money. I would hate to tow the car again. Luckily, I had AAA membership. It would of cost me a fortune for a 30 miles tow.
I had a leak which was a coolant line that ran under the engine, the fix was just a gasket that had blown in that line but it did have to go to the mechanic. I also had overheating but that was because the seal on my radiator cap was broken.
In the past, I noticed that I always have to refill my radiator after I used the air conditioner but I didn't think much of it. So I try to not to use it so often. Could that be related to the coolant leak? Second question is, How do you know if the radiator cap is cracking? Mine never felt right when I put it in. Maybe I'll just replace it for the sake of it. Thanks guys for the information.
thats weird, something like that happened to me a few days ago. i had been drivin all day, and once i got home, i left the car running for about 5 mins, and i came back out cause i had to go out again, and all the coolant was on the floor !!!! wtf was my first exclamation. So i turn off the car, and jack it up, add some matter, and start it up again, closely watchin , i let it run for bout 30 mins and it didnt do ****, so i left it runnin and went to autozone to buy more cooland and when i came back, the left over colant that i was still inthe car was all over the floor again, and the water that i had put in there. so i went to add more watter in the radiator, when i realized that my radiator cap was broken, i had the cap in my hand, and 2 pieces were still sittin inside of the lil hole where u put the cap. There was the spring and the plastic piece that goes over it that were still sittin inside the radiator hole. So i m like wtf, so i go to autozone and show it to em, turn out, this thing regulates some kinda pressure. So i got a cap from there for like 6 bucks, added more coolant, and slapped the new cap on there, and everything was neat as it usually was !!! so i guess you all should check your radiator caps just to make sure they are all good. Again mine was broken in 3 pieces.....
hope this helps
peace.

It wouldn't hurt to replace the radiator cap that's for sure but I think my problem is a little more complicated with the water leaking under the throttle body/base of air filter (other possible leaks) with no where near the radiator. I never knew that the radiator cap has a regulator. Just two weeks ago I had my mechanic check on my car because I had to refill the radiator so often plus I am anticipating for summer but he couldn't find anything wrong with the car. I guess that would explain the mysteriously vanishing coolant. Thanks. That's very helpful.
^^^ no problem, if your problem is under the trottle body, it has to be a hose. I believe there are 2 for cold start, which is what people use to do the colant bypass. i cant see anything else comin out of the T body.

I finally got a chance to look at the under the hood. Indeed it was a leaking hose. I just need to take my cai out of the way and drain the radiator coolant before I remove the hose. Hopefully, autozone have a replacement hose for me. Thanks si_g.
