Tried searching for all of the above in the title... No results came in so just making it search friendly hehe. I'm pretty sure others have had my problem, but I just don't know the right terminology that describes my problem...
1992 Prelude SI:
Anyway, as I was driving home today, I noticed in the corner of my eye that my rpms jumped at around 4k rpms (like after I hit around 3.5-4k rpms, the needle twitched a great deal- I didn't notice any "hiccuping" during this time). . At first I thought I was seeing things because I didn't really notice anything else... just thought it was my peripheral vision playing tricks on me.
Then I saw it again later on as I got even closer to home. So, on a straight away, I decided to just give my car a good go and as I was gunning it up to around 3.5k-4k, the car just like jumped... or hiccuped if you will (my car didn't do this the first 1 or 2 times I noticed the needle jump, so not sure if the two are related). .
TIA for comments!

Its located in your distributor, the same EXACT thing happened to me... i figured it out the hard way and changed my battery, and alternator before I found out it was the ignitor.
Cool thanks man! Yah, someone over on my thread on ht said he had the same problem and changed out his dizzy and the problem was fixed... Getting just the ignitor is a whole lot cheaper than the whole entire housing... will try that!.
How did you pin point it to the ignitor btw... Is there any way to visually tell if the ignitor unit has gone bad?
Also, can this problem make me fail smog? I'm in due to see state ref on wednesday, but if I order it, it wont make it here till next week... Should i just postpone the bar test?

Thanks.
Ohhh I see... My problem is some what similar, but not the same... Given my situation and the situation from that thread, it most def seems it is the dizzy. The problems from that thread seems more so electrical... mine is a combo of the erratic tach + halting of the engine at certain rpms. Thanks for the heads up si_g... will take a look at my ecm as well. Already put order in for the ignitor unit.

Hehe, no problem man. Thanks for givin me the info! So by how Si_g describes in his thread... he probably just meant the ICM right? The way he describes the ECM in his thread is about the same area as where the ICM is right?
thanks again! no worries ludster... just got the ignitor unit today... so hopefully itll fix my problem

Hmmm... After I take off the cap and rotor, do I need to take out the entire dizzy still? The screws that hold on the heat sink are stripped (the two philip screws that are above the leads that plug into the icm). The heat sink is attached to the icm also isn't it? How can I take it out if the 2 screws are stripped?
tia guys!

that's weird... their stripped? and no u don't need to take out the distributor. just make sure u remember which wire connects where on the ICM. It should slide right aout afte rthose two screws.

Well, I stripped them. The philips head were so weak. The 2 screws were in pretty tight even after I let it soak in PB blaster. So I tried twice and that was enough to strip the heads... =[

umm... I have no clue wat to do now.. All i can think of is either drill the screws out or try and see if u can find a bigger screw driver that might fit in the stripped holes. If u have some time on ur hands U can make lines through the bolts and use a flat head.
