car issues

Since I am a paying member I have decided to actually take advantage of the knowledge base here.

The background is that in November I decided it was not worth taking my car to school to barely use to I dropped insurance on it and left it at home. When I would come home ever month or two I would start it up and it runs fine and ran perfect before I garaged it. Sometime in April I took out my kyb/agx set up and put back in the stock springs and shocks as well as my front strut tower bar. About a month ago I had to move my car from my dad's garage to my mom's garage which is about a 8 mile drive.

Here is where the problem first showed its self. I have a very distinct clicking noise coming from the front passenger side. I got home and popped the hood to notice one of the control arm bolts was not tightned down all the way so I did so and took it back out for a spin. The problem was still there so I tried to get some more info on the problem.

The frequency of the clicking correlates to the speed I am going. It happens when I am going straight. It seems to go away when I accelerate or brake slightly it seems to go away or at least get much quiter. I jacked up the front end to inspect it. The cv boots seem to be ok and when I spin the tire with it jacked up it makes no noise. Since this problem seems to have only appeared since I swapped back in the stock suspension I figure it has something to do with that but what would cause a clicking noise to arrise?

Until you mentioned that the CV's were fine, I thought it could be bad CV boots. Maybe they've gone bad underneath the boot, w/ the boot still intact? The only other thing I can thing of is a tranny problem or an axle problem.

I thought CV boots are worse when you turn one way, I will go double check to make sure they don't tomorrow. Also I will try to look at them a little closer.

If there's no more grease in the boot, it'll click. It can get bad enough to click when driving in a straight line.

I don't think it has to do with the suspension, although, I don't think it's the joint either. It has to be something that rotates though, because of the fact that it increases with speed.

i dont know how much this may help or not, but i had a 'clicking' that was related to my tires spining. It turned out the first time, i had a nail in one my tires that was actually causing the sound, and then when i remedied it, The noise turned out to be imbalanced tires. I had lost one of those metal plates that the attach to the rim edge.

It never made any noise before though.

achemze I'll check the tires but I think it is too loud to be caused by a nail or anything.

I had a reasonably loud clicking that was speed dependant....turned out a decent sized rock was jammed in between my tire's tread

could be your wheel bearing as well. had that problem on my old 93 vtec on the driver side. was fine until one day it started to make noise/click in a straight line. replaced and never came back.
