In-car camera mount how-to inside....

Okay, so i posted a question a week or so ago about how i could mount my video camera in my car. Well, the only responses involved duct tape, well, i thought of a better idea, here it is......
Tools: Drill, an x-acto and a little patience
Materials: 1 long screw, 1 wingnut, 1 tie-strap, 1 small velcro strip (under $10)
Time: approx 1 hour
First, i removed my rear deck (its easy to do), then i found the spot where i wanted to mount the camera (Sony Digicam). I chose to mount it in the middle of the deck, so the seats wouldn't really get in the way. After i figured out where i wanted to put the hole, i drilled through the sheet metal (2 layers) The hole is towards the front of the deck. Then I replaced the deck and matched the holes up. After that, all you really need to do is take the screw (6mm for Sony or 1/4" also works) and stick it through the hole and thread it into the camera and tighten the wingnut down. Now, your camera will be pointed towards the radio, so i used a rubber doorstop (temporary) to angle it upwards. This is where the tie strap (or rope or any tying device) comes in. I used an x-acto knife to slice 2 slits in the deck (there are 2 big holes in the sheet metal underneath) and ran the strap through there and through the strap in the camera and over the back. This makes the angle better and the shot more steady. The velcro is used on the underside of the camera to stop it from swinging from side to side. Now all you have to do is play with the zoom and angle it to your liking. The install was very clean and when the camera isnt mounted, all you can see is the little screw head poking up. On my first test run, it was perfect. The shot was perfectly stable and you can hear everything the driver would normally hear. I would recommend this to anyone with a camera, i am going to have some great auto-x and other videos. Now i all need is a remote to turn it on. I hope this helps some of you guys out.

No, not voyeur, sorry to disappoint you. I am going to tape autocross and other stuff in my car. I will have videos of shifting, 1/4 mile track runs and eventually a turbocharged car with a nice blow-off valve This summer they will probably all be available for your viewing pleasure.......why wouldn't you want a camera in your car, haven't you seen some of those incredible in-car rally videos??? I already did a few runs and it looks and sounds great, i would recommend it to anyone with a camera.

any other ideas on this tip....possibly without permanently altering the interior? maybe a bolt in mount with the rear seats removed?

The interior isnt altered in any major way. There is only one 1/4" hole under the rear deck that is needed. Its hardly noticeable. Mine may look weird since there are no back seats......and i put the tow strap in there, but thats not necessary.
