When I am driving just like normal and i go to shift and just let the rpms drop instead of shifting right away, like if I am just coasting, the car makes a pop sound, almost like it is backfiring. Even if i dont go to high RPMs this happens. i let my friend drive it, she is scared to shift higher than 3k and when she did the 1-2 shift about 3k rpm, it did it and it does sound like a backfire.
what is backfiring, it's basically what, uncombusted fuel in the exhaust gas combusting somewhere manifold-back? If it is indeed backfiring, can you assume that the ratio is running rich, and that's why there's uncombusted gas post-combustion? Also, does OBD1 take any consideration for fuel post-combustion? Lastly, how (old) are your spark plugs? Lol, sorry, I'm chalk full of questions, and no answers, but maybe we can figure it out together
bout 25,500 miles on the spark plugs. its been doing it a little while, i just did the EGR block and its been doing it more lately. I have NGK Iridium Plugs in there right now with the same number as stock, except for the Iridium part. OBD1, i dont know, as the only O2 Sensor is before the cat. maybe a new o2 sensor? the car just rolled over 140,000 miles. My gas mileage sucks too now, I just started putting regular (87 octane) because the gas prices were so damned high, but i am going to switch back to middle or premium next fill up since its at most 1.50 or 2.00 more per fillup.
any new suggestions? im going to buy new spart plugs today. i may just get the cheap ones from autozone or something like that.....no need for something expensive, right?
