I had 2 4th gen preludes, one was vtec and one is Si. The thing is that there are always steering wheel vibrations, meaning it is never solid. I had all my tires rebalanced, although it does help it doesn't solve the problem entirely. There is still very subtle movement of the sterring wheel. I've noticed as tires wear the vibrations increase. It is felt through the floor, padals and steering wheel.
This was a problem in both preludes. The one I'm driving now was bought from a dealer by my Dad, so I know it's in excelent condition, everything in suspension is tight. We have a '98 accord and it's amazing how much more solid the car is compared to preludes. The steering wheel feels very tight and there is never a slight hint of vibrations, you could drive with unbalanced tires and still not feel anything.
My guess is the prelude's suspension design is not as solid or the steering rack isn't designed well. This is the one thing I hate most about the prelude.
Anyone else has this problem?
Would getting Urethane bushing in the front help or make the problem worse?
ahuh... same here. gotten the tires rebalanced a million times, allignments for all sets of rims, including stocks (which is what im rockin these days), ball joints replaced, bushings.... nothing has helped. I only notice it on hard accelleration tho
Yeah, I'm having the same problem. I'm going to replace all the rubber in my suspension (because it's old, and I want to see if it helps) Other than that, I don't know what to do either.....
I wonder if 5th gen feels any different and if it does, would it be possible to transfer a steering rack over to 4th gen?
I tried to see if it's possible to fit the steering rack from '98 accord but it looked like the connection from steering wheel to a rack was done with a solid metal piece. Sort of like an axle connected to a hub. But in a prelude from what I could see it looked like a heavy gauge cable type connection.
i dont really have shake .. it does a bit when i slow down .. sometimes .. prolly rotors BUT .. my car sways left to right (4ws) .. once i get a proper alignment.
my car used to be solid...no shaking at all... that is, until my friend drove my car at 60mph and hit some sorta of construction in the road... it was basically a huge section of the road removed, leavin a 4inch deep gap in the road.. After that, the car has been shaking ... I've changed the wheels and gotten an alightment but the thing still vibrates.. It only vibrates around 60mph ....

somtimes i just hate driving my car 'cuz of that... vibration... makes me feel like my car's ****ty... so i just drive around my dad's cadillac... or just wash my car real clean so i fall in love with it again... haha
Check your outer tie rod? My steering wheel shook a lot and when I got my car aligned the technician noticed that the ball-joint section was really loose - thus attributing to the steering wheel not feeling very solid. After replacing it, everything is fine now.

Funny you say that. I replaced all 4 tie rods on my car and for some reason, my driver's side front wheel has some play in it if I jack up the car and move the wheel from side to side.

I had my break rotors replaced. After romoving old ones I noticed a lot of rust buildup on the hub. This can possibly contribute to rotor not sitting flat therfore the wheel is not spinging in a perfect circular motion. Is it possible the hub can warp?
Anyone ever driven newer accords, their steering wheel's feel is so solid. But also the frame to where all suspension pieces are connected are very well beefed up.
I had inner/outer tie-rods repalced but that didn't help much.
tire wear = bad camber ! i bet most of you are dropped, and have bigger wheels At my surprise, a lot of people dont have camber kits..The bigger wheels might be the reason it shakes a bit. i have front and rear kits and, and i get tired balanced and the car aligned every 3000 miles ( cause its free ) i get that at about 60 mph, but it is very very small, only i feel it cause i m used to the car, but someone who is not used to my car doesnt feel it and once i pass 63 or so, its smoth and solid again. Plus im a perfectionist when it comes to my lude hehe. but yea, other than that light vib at 60 or so, my lude drives perfect. Tho i notice it feels a lot more solid when i have the stocks wheels and tires on.
EDIT: as far as the rotors, u should only feel a vibration while pressin the brakes, if so, then yea the rotors are bad, but it the shakes while u drive, then either your tires have uneven wear, or lost a sticky weight, or have a bent wheel.
I bet you all notice if you drive with your stocks on, it drive fine !

What year prelude do you all drive? Both of them are '94.
I had stock rims on both cars with brand new tires. My current prelude has stock suspension but my VTEC was lowered. There was no difference, they both caused vibrations.
I even spent $36 on special tire balancing machine that balances every possible vibration and it didn't help. This Machine tells where is the best possible spot to mount the tire besides other things. I'm afraid to spend money on aftermarket rims hearing everyone sas vibrations increase.
It might be possible the hub-center is faulty.
