Can this Tranny Be fixed?

Hey Guys,

I just got this fully rebuild H22a Tranny with new syncros and new gears, as well as a brand new Quaife LSD. What sucks is the tranny mount location has one screw post partially broken off during shipping. Can this be fixed? Just thought I'd throw this out there to see if this is something that could possibly be welded and retapped? Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Bob

ouch, everything sounded awesome until you mentioned broken parts. I don't know that welding is any kind of an option for a mount, but what the hell do I know? Where'd you buy your quaife from, and what did you get it for?

it doesnt work that well, from my experience that stuff gets too brittle for such use.

I think you could take that to a good shop and have them build up an new boss at that location, then just cut, drill, and tap a new mount hole. The weld would have to be VERY strong though as that is a major load bearing point on the tranny.

I think your best bet would be to get a new housing to replace it.

Yea a new housing is tha way to go, You can pick up a dead tranny and just take the housing off that, i believe the housings are all pretty much the same, the h22a is some what different if it had lsd but with quaife then is shouldnt matter. I have a 3/4 dissassembled tranny sitting my my storage now, that from f22. Same housing.

But i think it will hold easily without a problem with the 2 bolts.

thanks for all the responses. Seems I will just try for a cheap housing for replacement, not to complicate things.

PS- To all you duct tape freaks out there, Elmers Glue would work just as well!!

now all you have to do is find a wooden transmission case, break off a part, and your groundwork is all set.
