Can Not Shift Into Gears 1, 3 or 5

Hello,

I have a 92 Prelude Si all stock. I replaced the shift cables today and gears 1,3 and 5 will not engage. I purchased the cables from Honda so I think they are good, but it seems like when I push the shifter up to go into 1st the change lever hits the bracket base and will not go any further. The same happens for gears 3 and 5.

Please help!!!!

I have solved this problem and will post the resolution here in case someone else has this problem. As you may know, this car has a shift arm assembly that sits on the top of the transmission near the battery. This is what the shift cables connect to for the actual shifting of the transmission gears. The shift cable assembly, which consists of two cables, is connected to the change lever inside the the interior of the car on one end and the shift lever and select lever of the shift arm assembly which again is in the engine compartment. It is easy to confuse these with the change lever which is located inside the cabin of the vehicle.
Anyways the shift lever is secured to a shift arm by a bolt. This is all inside the shift arm assembly. In my case this bolt was sheared off which allowed the shift lever to rotate past its typical range. This resulted in the Change lever being able to travel its required distance to engage gears 1, 3 and 5 but not actually engage the gears as the shift elver was not secured to the shift arm properly.
Long story short, I needed to replace the shift lever after attempting to drill out the broken bolt. After the replacement everything is shifting fine. This was a fairly easy fix and may prevent someone from replacing a transmission unnecessarily.

I replaced a transmission unnecisarily because of this mine was worn out with bad synchros anyway. but it would have been nice to know this so i could have gotten more use out of it. i changed my master cylinder and was doing some nice spirited driving when i heard a metallic sound in the transmission. probably the bolt mentioned above. after this it wouldnt go into 1 3 or 5. good post. people need to know this
