i was wondering if i buy an AEM CAI, do i need to cut some parts out of my car or do i just put it in? i saw some pictures of people cutting some metal part out so it can go lower, but is it necessary?

Yes, you have to cut it otherwise it will not fit through.

Oh well, i dont' know what the difference is but mine definately did not fit without some cutting. It was close, but it wouldn't fit through.... it still doesnt fit by much and is rubbing against the metal and wearing a hole into it... i need to get some rubber to coat the rough edge of the metal.

Some came with 2 3/4 piping, others came with 3 in piping. It depends when you bought it, and what 'gen' you got basically.

the 4th gen intake are 2 3/4 inch, the 5th gen should be 3 inches. the 2 3/4 fit almost snuglly, but the problem you run into if tyou do not cut, is that teh intake will begin to wear, and rub againts the hole. over time your intake will cut itself. my intake has a nice lil mark now hehe.

the 5th gen or 3 inch pip has to be cut. some ppl have bang the hole a lil bigger to fit the intake. good luck

there is kind of a debate on how big 2 3/4 - 3" because there is a point to where the size stop gaining and actually satrts to lose power
