cabin air filter

I understand 99+ludes came with a cabin air filter that sits in between the blower unit and evaporator in the a/c system. Has anyone thought of retrofitting or somehow adding something to filter the air that flows through our a/c units? This is something i'd like to do, but not sure where to start. Just would like better air quality (as opposed to all the crap we pick up from the street) coming out through those vents. Any input/ideas appreciated.

i know that the 4g's dont have one but i do not think the idea of retrofitting or "rigging" one in there has been discussed. what would be the advantages?

I'll be looking at this very closely, but not until next spring. Lots of other things to do between now and then.

even on recirculate a lot of the what's outside makes its way inside the car (like a fuming exaust from the car ahead of you) plus i'm sure the recirculated air is pretty polluted anyway. What i was thinking was to pinpoint the exact spot where air is "sucked in" from the outside or cabin and the place the filter there.

Yea, the intake is under the passenger side of the big plastic piece that covers the wiper motors.

I looked in there and didn't see how would air enter the cabin, no openings (though there seem to be some vents on the driver side half on that plastice piece) But it's understandable thst it's got to be there since the recirc. motor is on that same side and area...

you know i was thinking about this while driving today.

i've ridden in many 5th gen ludes. i really didn't notice any air quality difference at all. even nicer cars where i know they have like nicer filters. you have to pass by a water treatment plant on the way to my house. everytime you pass by at night, you will smell it (worse on hotter days) but those car running a/c recir or not still get that smell. i still get allergies in other cars as well.

so i mean, i guess it might be nicer to know you are probably getting a little cleaner air, but to me it seems as though it wouldn't work in my situation. therefore i wouldn't put too much effort into this cabin filter.

OT: i've seen cabin filters before and they look like vaccum filters, dirty.....but so is most of the air everywhere

^ at least it will prevent leaves from getting in there. I found a few when I changed the evaporator.

As for the opening... I'm pretty sure its somewhere down there, I remember seeing something when I took off that plastice piece to fix my friend's wipers.
