A/C woes.....

anyways, i thought i fixed my air conditioner last summer. earlier in the year it would work off and on, but now the compressor doesnt kick in (i can't see it spinning almost like the clutch doesnt engage) when i press the button, but it does light up green. Any ideas? new compressor? it's full of coolant now, could i just rip a compressor off of a wrecked lude and refill it with coolant? I am scared that when i take it apart, that all of the coolant will hurt me in some way.

Anyways, what could it be? my compressor doesnt come on anymore

Oh, and Alabama weather is no fun without an air conditioner

Yeah when it comes to our cars and anything related to the dash (example gauges, AC, etc) it's surprising how many things can be fixed with a simple wack at the dashboard. One time my AC wasnt cooling, and all the switches were set appropriately to where it should have been, and i just smacked the dash part right over the center AC vents, and cool air immediately started coming out.

Just recently I started hearing a weird rubbing noise of some kind when I make left turns. It sounds like something with the AC fan rubbing against something. The noise seems to come from under the dash of the passenger side, like where the "glove compartment" is. Anyone else have this problem?

mine somewhat does the same thing...

i press the A/C button and it will come on pretty cold (if i stay around 50Mph or less)... if i go above that... after 5-10 mins.. the a/c seem to stop working. I stopped at a mechanic and they said hte compressor was working and it has enough coolant. Or other times it jut won't start at all...

yeah, and if you realize you need a new compressor, get a professional to drain your a/c, even with R-134a, it can't be good to release it into the atmosphere.

Did you figure out the problem? Was it the Climate control? I'm in the same boat as you. I'm thinking it's the climate control since when I wack the dash - the A/C switch works and the compressor turns on like your car. Well - I haven't been able to wack it on anymore. Waiting on this climate control to come ::crosses fingers::

hmm..So the climate control is likely to go bad is the general consensus. I tested the switch with a multimeter and it is indeed the switch since I did not get any continuity with the switch depressed.

Have you opened it up to see what needs to be resoldered?

Look around for one of the write-ups I posted on how to fix the climate control ...

You need to take the entire unit out, disassemble it to the circuit board and heat up the solder for all the pins that create the p lug for the wiriing harness out of the dash.

Do you guys ever notice lights flickering in the CC unit ?? I did, and this fixed it good. (also a good excuse to do the blue led conversion.)

Here's the thread:
Ongoing saga of my failing heater control

Very informative - I'll take a stab at it this weekend.
