a/c problem

I have a 93 Prelude S, and the a/c wont hold the freon. I've evac and recharged it. It'll blow cold air but it only lasts about 5 minutes. I think there's a leak but I'm not sure. I thought about having a shop do a leak test on it but they're wanting to charge about $300 to do it. Is there anything I can do on my own to figure out this problem without having to spend so much?

You using one of those DIY recharge kits that have the pressure gauge? If so then go plug it in now and see if you have any pressure. if not, then all i can say is get a can of UV Dye and a can of r134a and fill the system and run it, use a UV light to look for a leak.

Look at the fittings, if its R12 the fitting will be like 1/4" bike tire shrader valve, if its R134a, it will be like 3/4" sleve quick connect connect

Climate control may have a loose connection: FAQ: 4Gen Climate Control Fix (flickering lights, non changing vents, sporadic a/c)
