a/c evaporator removal-install

well i found out that my a/c took a dump on me. i went to honda this morning to have them test the system out to see what the problem is. comes around that its the evaporator. has anybody ever replaced one? if so how difficult is the install? does the entire front dash have to be removed to pull it out? i'm trying to get out of this the cheapest as possible. dealer wants $630 for parts and labor. i can get the part for around $280 shipped, which makes me wonder how difficult the install is. any help is great. thanks.

I just had mine replaced due to it having holes in it, and leaking. I bought mine from hparts for about 250, but lucked out and had all my labor done from my friends CC(community college) class.
Anyway the instructor said this car was especially difficult to work on, he also mentioned they had to remove my passenger airbag and ABS to remove the evap. I didn't get to watch, but it sounds pretty hard.

I just took the evaporator out of my car, it was easy.

I'll sell you mine for $100 shipped. Is there anyway I can figure out if it works?

like removing and installing the evap is easy, I guess the draining the AC an refilling is expensive I don't know....but I removed my evaporator in an hour.

- pull off tweeter
- take off gauge visor at top
- unscrew gauges on right side.
- pop them up to clear the airbag
- remove the airbag and brackets
- remove the AC lines in the engine bay under the ABS pump
- remove the evaporator casing inside the car
- remove the evaporator

yeah it shouldnt be anything big. honda wanted 1300 to replace my heatercore, i did it myself for 50 bucks [for the heater core] and 15 bucks worth of hose and hondabond. the hc is right next to the evaporator. it was more of a ***** to get out, i think you should definately just do it yourself.

my 92 Si doesn't have a passenger side airbag, so taking the evaporator out is a breeze

if that was directed at me i had looked at the car in his sig and it had the 92/93 bumper lenses so i assumed it was a 92/93-which is why i said something about there being no pass side airbag. i read a little closer after i posted and realizes it said its newer. so i edited it.

i still hold that you should do the install yourself, unless money really isnt a big deal.
