This issue seems to be related to wiring of some sort being loose, where abouts should I check? If I need to disassmble the console how do i go about removing it to check the wiring? i know the centre console and the head unit frame will probably need to go... and then...?
first remove center console, radio, then i believe there are three screws holding the climate contol....one is from underneath the unit, then it should come out.
I'd say check the combination light wire (red/blk) if that's not it then you may need to dissasemble the unit and replace the bulbs,
I did see a write-up for replacing thebulbs with led's so you can refer to that thread on how to take the unit apart.
I think its very interesting that you and I both have the hesitation and both of us have this problem. I might go take a picture to show what lights I'm talking about.
this seems to be a common problem for 4th gens. I have the same problem, but not as bad. My top lights work perfectly but every once in a while I have to tap the bottom ones to get them to turn on.

I'm pretty fortunate it hasn't happened to me, but a good friend of mine is having this problem so I'm trying to help him out As for the hesitation, it's been gone since I fixed my amp grounding, dunno how the heck that helpd but it did!
Bertico - I'll give it a go, thanks heaps for the info
There's something you guys might wanna check. There's a little black box behind the dash next to the fuel/temp gauges and clock. In surrounded by a white piece of plastic which it is screwed in to. I know that little box is what powers the lights on the climate controls when you turn on your parking/head lights. Maybe you can go to a junk yard and replace it. I'm not sure how much they go for but I would definitely give it a shot...if it's not too expensive.

this isnt it, if it was, NONE of the lights would come on. no speedo no tach nuthin! i know because i had to replace mine. and as for being a cheap part try $127 from the dealer (thank god for ebay)
Is it just the lights that you have problems with, or the climate control functions related to those lights/buttons? More often than not, my rear defroster button won't come on... but the rear defroster itself also does not come on...
You guys are talking about the lights that illuminate the temperature and fan speed controls right (the blue to red and dots) little icons. Mine are off most of the time, and go on when they feel like. I've tried hitting the dashboard and they don't come on.
It's funny how banging on the dashboard fixes a lot of problems for a us 4th genners. The only thing that has ever fixed after my banging on the dashboard was one time my A/C wasn't cooling, at the time I was frustrated and hit the dashboard, and instantly, cold air...
This same thing happened on my 2nd Gen integra. I just pulled out the climate control and re-soldered the connections. It wasn't hard at all. Banging it may work for a little bit but you're only making it worse.
I have the exact same problem on my 4th gen. After a while the lights behind the buttons on the cc unit go off. The little light which shows which button is pressed is still functioning. How can I fix it? Should I take out the part with the buttons and resolder the connectors?
Sorry to resurrect this thread from tha dead, but i stumbled upon it looking for something else... too late...
That happened to my 4th gen for a year now, intermittent lights, and intermittent A/C (rarely would stay on for more than 2 mins then you gotta smack the dash again)
Anyways, enough ranting, i fixed it 2 months ago. just remove the A/C cluster, then check the solder points for the Green connector. Mine were all cold solder joints, and were mostly cracked. I just added solder and re-soldered them. Has worked great for the last 2 months... definitely worth the 2 days of no A/C Cluster.
Here's the Solder cracks.. the only pic i bothered taking sorry i didn't take pics on how to remove it.
I noticed that when I pressed on this connection the A/C would come on, and when I pulled, or pushed another direction it would shut off... that's what gave away which connection it was before I disassembled the AC unit itself.
