Buying a 94 Prelude

Hello, forum members!

I'm looking into buying a 94 honda prelude. It was an si, but they owner put an engine from the s model. The odometer shows 202k miles, but the new engine has around 125k miles. test-drove it today. the things it needs right now: new battery, wheel alignment (the steering wheel shakes on the highway), some tune-up. The tires are not that good either, will need some new ones in some months to come. One thing though: if the car is in neutral and i accelerate a little, the rpm arrow drops into the low zone (below 500), makes a little shake (like it's about to die), but then returns into the normal idle zone (above 500) - the battery is dead on it, needs a jump every time. All in all, he said he'd take 2500 for it, but i'm fixing to call monday and offer 2300 as a final price (cash in hand). what do you guys think?

Appreciate your help,

Mimino

I would buy it if the body and interior was flawless, it would make a good project car. Sounds like it needs some work, kind of reflects the previous owner . Sounds a little bit high in price imo for the miles on it and such, did you get the feel he was trying to dump it on you? Preludes are nice cars, but its hard to find one in good condition/well maintained for sale. Get an inspection if you have to get this car and out way the benefits and the negatives, just my $.02 btw any pics?

high miles, S engine is crappy (why he swapped for an S engine is beyond me), seems like you'll need to spend a
decent amount of cash to get the car running properly, price is way to high considering the money u will have to spend to get it up to scratch

I got steal on my 1993 SI. I paid 2500 where the outside and interior were flawless with no rust and the H23 ran perfectly fine even having 212,000 miles. Plus it was a Georgia car. I just don't get why the previous owner put in the S engine...

^ If its really an F22, its cheaper. That or he told him its a 'Type S' engine, which seems to cause some confusion among people who are not familiar with the submodels
