Bumper Brake Light?

My friend has a 1994 V-Tec Lude. He bought it used and on the back/rear bumper, theres a red brake light. There's that indentation/hole above the exhaust that spans across the bottom. He has a brake light there. Does anyone know where to buy one? Thanks.

I don't. It's like a brake light from a Spoiler, but it's a bit longer. It doesn't work on his car because it's not hooked up, but it looks GREAT.

Could be a JDM thing....I was just looking at my rear bumper today and I was wondering what the hell that black piece of plastic is there for. Putting a light in there would be pretty damn cool...get pictures please

I have seen these on pictures of european models of preludes. Like on many german cars, this is a rear FOG light that illuminates when you turn on your front fogs. It is bright red and stays on so people can see you from behind. Many of these preludes also had a rear wiper. Did this prelude orginate from europe or possibly canada?

I doubt it. He bought the Lude from a guy in Los Angeles. I'll try to get pictures of it. Yeah, it's basically something that covers up the black plastic that is on the bumper. I'll see if he has a digital camera.

The rear fog light on the 4th gen Preludes is like a little rectangle that is off-center in the wide section of the rear bumper. What he is describing sounds like it is located down in the black "cavity" lower on the bumper.

It is a rear fog lamp that is meant for European models. It does not matter if it by the exhaust. Hella makes a kit in which it mounts under the bumper for European cars if, they do not have one. It is required over in Europe. It has to be off the ground by a certain distance but, pretty much visible from the rear. The NSXs also have a rear fog lamp also for the Euro models. I am pretty confident that is what it is.

But 4th gens overseas DO have them! Why would they add one if it was already there? Does it only come on during braking?

UK / European 5th gens have EXACTLY the same rear fog light. Mine has it. I fitted another one on the other side. It looks much better when symmetrical than just one.

OEM UK bumber right?

I think you are missing my point red92s. I am saying it does not matter where the position is. Long as it is visible from the back and high enough to meet regulations. The Hella rear fog light kit is mounted under the bumper usually on Mercedes, VWs, BMWs, Opels, etc. when they are shipped to Europe from US, Asia, or just do not meet the TUV or E-code specs for whatever reason.

Hey Prelude UK, show us a pic of the back of your Prelude to see what your rear fog light looks like since, you live in UK

The 4th gen rear fog light is in the same position as the 5th gen:

dudewlude, I understand what you are saying about the position. Clearly, the car was not imported, because it does not have the FACTORY fog light. When is the rear fog light lit? Whenever the brakes are applied? Whenever the front fogs are on? If the light this guy is talking about comes on under braking, then it's just an additional brake light.

I don't honestly know if, it has another switch, different setting, and/or it is connected with the front fog lights itself. It should be turned on during fog but, people turn them on whenever. The original post stated that his friend did not hook them up yet. I just know that they are required. I personally do not like it but, to each his own.

You guys are missing his original point he said it filled the black plastic peice that spanned the whole rear bumper, not the JDM/UK ugly square fog light

he meant this peice

anyway it's a 22inch LED brake light that can be inserted right in that spot, someone on HP.com has it done he sent me pics a while back, it looks pretty cool at night

It looks like this. The "mesh" part is where the bumper light is. It spans across the entire bottom. Has anyone seen it?

You can buy strips of LED off many audio or LED websites
in diff lengths from 5 inchs to 60 inches
the look like this

very easy to instal (2 wires) and they screw right into your bumper

prices range from $30-$100 depending on size

I can email it to someone if they are willing to host it on a web site somewhere? The only 4 photos I have of my car are after a crash I had before Christmas, so it doesn't look too pretty. Anyway, the pictures were taken before I fitted the ADDITIONAL rear fog light which made up the pair.
