my antenna failed on me yesterday. it went up, but it never came down. i have searched and have found out that i need only the mast. my motor still works, its just the antenna doesn't go down. i found the whole setup on ebay for about $45 and the mast for about $30. i'm asking your guys opinions on if i should just get the mast or if i should get the whole setup. just the mast seems a lot easier to install, but if the whole setup is not that difficult to install, i might just go that way so i don't have to deal with the antenna again later down the road. let me know your guys thoughts. thanks.
mine broke too and wouldnt go all the way down, so i got the ebay 45 dollar one and it works great. it wasnt too bad to install and i have had it for about 6 months now, no problems... i would recommend it over the mast only option

goto a Honda dealer and order the antenna mast (this is if the motor still makes noice when you turn the car on and off).
You can remove the old mast and put in the new one (approx $40) and install a new one.
Keep the factory look and spend the cash.

factory look? mine is identical in look, i even reused the rubber outer mount...why not just get a whole new motor AND mast for 45 bucks? it just makes more sense

I didn't have a great ebay experience. I bought just the mast and it worked but it wasn't the correct size so it would make this nasty clicking noise for a couple of seconds. You could probably cut it shorter though. Also, the new mount they sent with it didn't fit the prelude body (it's the wrong angle and too high) and I smashed the old one trying to get it off since I didn't have the "honda tool". So I was up the creek without a paddle and took it to honda. I'm not mr. mechanic I know, but that's my story.
You can get a generic Metra unit for $40 here. I installed one into my car when my stocker crapped out. If you know it's just the mast buy one from the dealer, it'll be easier than the whole unit to install. I thought it was the mast on mine but turned out to be the whole motor assembly.
just look at the bolt holding down the antenna, it's got 4 little grooves around it. They have a tool for that. You can also just use a screwdriver and bang it with a hammer, but make sure you have a towel or something covering the car so you don't scratch it like I did...D'oh!
