Bringing an old topic back to life.

OK i searched this and most the threads were from 2002, so i figured... lets start this discussion up again... TARGA lude...

I've been contemplating the idea for a while. I really want to pursue making my car into Targa. I read about the structural integrity and all that but i'm not planning on racing my lude, just ocasional show/daily driver. What problems would this create? and would they be big enough to REALLY worry about.

Any ideas or comments are appreciated. YES i know it would cost alot of money, but my moms b\f owns a body shop, so i can get everything done for cost of parts cause i do most the work myself. With VERY careful planning, and precision work, i think it could be leak free/structurally sound.
Alex.

Its a removable roof, think Del Sol.

....but anyways, I think it would be very very cool, although you would need heavy structural reinforcements, for example the windshield, B pillar, etc..you'd probably be best off with a roll cage (I think).
I've heard that the car feels absolutly horrible in the corners without the roof in place, so you should do some research on structural reinforcements.

good luck, I would be stoked to see somebody do this.

i think all i would need is roll bars from the front base of the door, up along the windsheild, up around the door, and to the back. on both sides.

Too much work for what you get... IMO.

I saw a targa crx back in 1999, it was sweet. I talked with the builder and he said he had to add structural support under the car (to keep from folding in the middle) and there was also a roll cage for extra support. It looked sweet though. I think he said it would cost around 3k to get done. So if you do most of the work yourself it could be done for less. I guess.

If you need a prototype lude I will let you borrow mine. I just need to get it back structurally sound and not leaking.
