Please make sense.

Are you talking about the air filter? Or the AC filters(that I believe don't come on a 4G)

I'm sure you just need one for the valve cover spot.

its pretty useless considering air comes OUT of the hole in the valve cover.

leave the hoses connected... if the oil in your intake bothers you, buy an oil catch can.

Most intakes have a spot to attach the hose that goes to the valve cover and you might as well use it. It is meant to help push blowbly gases throught the engine and out the other side of the valve cover to your IM. Some people either block it off (cap it) on the intake and then put a breather on the valve cover or put a valve cover on both the intake and valve cover. Doesn't really matter though - do what you like best.

It will fit in the Si just fine. Air is actually supposed to be sucked in through the breather pipe when the intake manifold is under vacuum. The oil vapor that recirculates goes through the pcv valve & hose directly to the intake manifold, not the intake pipe. There's no point in putting another breather filter on the intake tube. Just plug the hole on the intake tube & put the breather filter on the inlet for the breather pipe on the valve cover. I did it on my car, no worries.

filters air.

When you take the tube off the intake you still need to filter the air getting in there. When the air comes out of the intake and goes into the valve cover it has already been filtered.

Air wont go into the breather until the engine is under load. And you're driving when that's happening, so you can't really reach under the hood to feel it. LOL.

what if you block it off on both sides? or just run a line from valve cover to drain out any excess oil?

If you block it off, where do you think the blowby gasses will go? It will presureise the crankcase and after a while you can kiss your engine goodbye.

If you want to do it properly, get a catch can because in some states (or all of them) venting the valve/pvc to the atmosphere is illegal as it is an emmission deivce.
