Brakes: pushrod adjustment

Okay,
So last week i decided to install my new BMC and SS brakelines. I started off with swapping the old lines with the new ones, bench bleed the MC and put it on the car.
After this I bled the calipers like 3 to 4 times because i wasn't happy with how the brake pedal felt (I had to push it in half way before the brakes grabbed) so then I tried to adjust the pushrod coming out of the booster, this did help alot because the pedal felt alot stronger, to strong actually because the brakes didn't release.
So I have been going back and forward with the adjuster bold (without honda's special tool) trying to get the brakes where i want them but this doesn't seem so easy because one turn on that bold and your brakes either get to soft or to hard.
Now my question to you guys is, is there an easier way to adjust, like adjusting the pushrod in conjunction with the pedal height because I didn't do anything to the pedal height since this was within spec Or should I just take it to the dealer and use the special tool on it.
Any suggestions would be appreciated
Thanks

i didn't adjust the pushrod and mine feel like yours - they have been like this for about 2 years, so they are probably "okay" but I understand what you are saying about mushy.

Its not that the pedal feels mushy anymore because adjusting the pushrod really helped getting the pedal stiffer and its not hard to do at all, but by adjusting it you have to be carefull not to overtighten ( turn the bolt to the left too much)On the other hand, when you turn the bolt too much to the right you won't have brakes at all.
By turning it just a little and then testing on the road each time I have gotten to the point that I have enough pedal stiffness but still to much drag in the brakes because sometimes I noticed that when you put the car in neutral and let it rol forward the brakes would catch and it would come to stop earlier then it normally does.
I've seen that alot of people on here didn't adjust their pushrod clearance, I want to know why? Did you all have perfect brakes after installing a new BMC or did you try to compensate the loss in pressure with adjusting the pedalheigt.

Because now that I have been thinking about it I shouldn't have messed with the pushrod because the bolt on the rod is like 2 threads away from where it used to be (I marked the rod) and what i said before about the pedalheigt being within spec isn't true because it is 145mm to the floor and it should be 165mm.
So would this 20mm in height difference compensate for the pushrod being 2 threads further down?

I just need some opinions about how to fine tune the brakes, their should be some people out there who did adjust their pushrod clearence because the Helms even mentions it.

I wanted to adjust my pushrod when I changed the MC but didn't see a way to do it because you're supposed to use a special gauge/tool. I ended up adjusting my brake pedal a little bit to compensate. Worked ok although it's a tad higher than where it was before. If you're just dragging a little bit it's probably worth trying to adjust the pedal a little.
