Brakes Melting?

i was rushing home tonight in a residential area doing about 60 - 70 and studdenly stopping to stop, turn, or whatnot. the brakes after about 2 or 3 times just would not stop anymore. when i got out at home, i could have sworn that they were white and smoking like a biatch. just wondering if they were melting or what.

Brakes get really hot (think about how much energy they disipate), but I doubt you heated any braking component to its melting point. When your brakes get really hot, they "fade" (don't work as well), hence the reason race cars have ducting to cool the brakes. It's normaly that the brakes smell "really hot" or "burning" after spirited driving.

Happened to me a few times too...pretty scary..no matter what i did or how hard i pumped the brake, it wouldnt stop. It was prolly brake fading due to the expansion of my brake lines. I re-did and upgraded my whole brake system to technafit SS lines, Brembo Cross-drilled and slotted rotors, and Axxis Metal Masters pads all around....I havent had a problem since.

happened to me when i went on a canyon carving run. it was really bad... i had to find a flat area and rest the car there for almost 40 mins till the pads cooled.

scary stuff.

1) What does being stock have to do with it?

2) Even at 3 am people can be out on the street. You were. Someone could be pulling out of a driveway and you are going to kill them. I'm sure you will be very sorry but it might be a little girl's mom or dad.
