brake upgrade - where'd ya get your brackets?

Thinking about upgrading to vtec caliper/rotors. Figure I'll just grab some napa calipers but I wasn't sure where to get brackets. THey listed something called caliper hardware kit? Anyway, where'd ya get yours?

are they single or dual piston calipers, and is this really an upgrade or just restoring to what your new stock calipers once were

I found mine at a junkyard. Went in looking for a 94+ console, and left with the console and calipers. The entire knuckle assemblies were just sitting in the trunk of the car I found the console in, so I just hauled them up to the front garage and had them pull the calipers. I paid $40 per side including the calipers and rotors.

The first place I would call is Import Auto Salvage in NC, one of the best import scrap yards in the country. Call them up and ask to speak to Larry and tell him what you are after (their number has been posted several times, try running a search).

The place I got mine is called Honda Parts Connection in Buford, GA. You should be able to find the number on yellowpages.com or a similar site. I'd say it's worth giving them a try.

I'm not positive if you can use 5th gen brackets, but if you can it's going to make your search a lot easier. Instead of having to specify a "VTEC" model you could just tell them 1997-2001 and avoid potentially recieving the wrong parts. But, like I said, I'm not sure you can use them . . . but since the 4g brackets bolt to the 5g knuckles I don't see why you couldnt do it in reverse.

4th gen VTEC's used larger calipers and rotors than their S/Si/SE counterparts, the same size as 5th gen VTEC's and ITR's (not positive about the integra, but I think thats correct).

yea its almost 1" larger rotor, I did the swap on my car.. honestly, tremendous braking power improvement with axxis ultimate brake pads/brembo blanks/VTEC calipers/valvoline synthetic fluid... my tires are in dire of improvement now, easy to initiate ABS at any speed now :\

I got the brackets from my donor car as well..

I basically have the exact same setup but on SI brakes and S03's - so a good deal of tire. The problem is that the axxis pads don't hold up during a long track day - by the end they have deposited unevenly onto the rotor (kinda feels like ABS is on whenever you hit the breaks ).

So right now I'm trying to decide whether to upgrade to the vtec brakes and use a slightly better pad or to get a dedicated race pad and just swap out the calipers/pads/rotors whenever I have a track day and stick with the SI setup the rest of the time. That way I wouldn't have to compromise the pad but since I'm only running a couple track days a year it seems like a bit of overkill.

I paid $100 for my calipers/old useless rotors/knuckles etc.. basically the whole assembly..

Yea the axxis ultimates are a great pad, atleast to the extent I have used them(street/autox)..

I'm sure there is a pad out there that would be a good combination of street/hard track use? I have heard the ultimates are pretty much good for this, but I guess you must push your car pretty hard/lots of laps?

I would go with VTEC calipers/rotors all year round personally.. plus they just fill up the wheel nice too..

Thanks for the help guys. So anyone try the 5th gen brackets?

I'm starting to think I might just go with some dedicated track pads on the SI brake setup and then I'd have money to buy a sway bar too. Hmmm, decisions decisions.
