brake piston stuck...

well let's just say i made a rookie mistake while in the process of changing my brake pads......

i installed them and i was trying to slide the caliper back over the rotor & pads

i was trying to push the piston back in so it would fit over the pads but it wasnt budging

in a "moronic" attempt to push it back in.....i depressed the brake pedal and now im stuck even worse

soooo basically im just asking for help on what to do.....

did you take the cap off of the master cylinder? was it from the front or rear of the car?

You can't just push the piston back in with your hand. You'll need to use tool or a large sized C clamp to push the piston back in so it will fit over the rotor.

well unfortunately all i have is a crappy monkey wrench that doesnt seem to wanna do the job.

i put the rubber handled end inside the piston and hit the other end with a hammer and it still isnt budging

i can try that again i suppose, i just dont wanna hurt anything

hahah. You need to do more than just hit it with a hammer. Go to a hardware store, or even Walmart, and get a 5" to 7" c clamp, and that will do the job for you. it cost about 5 bucks.

By removing the cap to the Master Cylinder, your allowing for easier back flow of brake fluid. With the cap on, there's no place for the air inside the MC to travel thus making it very difficult to push back in. A c-clamp will work along with a vise grip or a "quick" grip works well too. I little hint, depress the piston back into the caliper with the old brake pad still on. The larger surface area makes it much easier for clamping.
