Brake Pad and Rotor Replacement Suggestions

Hi everyone,

I have a 96 VTEC that I am getting ready to drive from Philadelphia to Seattle (I'm moving) and the brake pads and especially the rotors are completely shot.

I was hoping that I could solicit some ideas as to what everyone would suggest that I use. I want something that is quality and pretty durable, and that I won't have to replace frequently. I don't race or autocross my car, but wouldn't mind a performance upgrade over the stock setup.

Thank you for your help. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Would you recommend blanks over slotted rotors? Also does anyone else have any other suggestions for pads? I figured on getting either Brembo blanks or slotted rotors, but do not really know much about pads.

Thanks.

I got a set of new Ebc brake pads for your Prelude if you'd like. I bought it thinking it would fit my S but it's only for V-tech I believe. PM me if you want to know more.

importrp.com

got what you need.
Or get duralast gold pads, they're the same and have lifetime warranty. If you haven't purchased these already.

I'm also going to do my brakes soon.

Ive got a 93 vtec.

What about neuspeed rotors?
http://www.neuspeed.com/products/product_list.asp?app=24|PR&type=4&ltype=ns_import

Also in an older thread someone recommended nipponpower.com 's stuff
Welcome to our site! :: NIPPON POWER

So far my top choice is the slotted neuspeeds and also get the ss brake lines while they still have some... My mechanic told me to let him get me the pads cuz he has the hook on ceramic ones.

The other thing thats been suggested to me is brembo rotors, about twice the price of the neuspeeds. Any opinions?

People argue slotted and cross drilled are just for looks. Blanks are the best way to go. You get more performance from them since there's more braking surface area.

wow. that was the most logical argument against drilled slotted ive heard yet. Very true, more surface area. And you cant resurface slotted or drilled either.

The biggest attraction to me honestly is the longevity of the rotors. My mechanic says they last 5+ years

can anyone vouch for this or the length of life for blanks?

cant wait to get new ones mine squeak so fn much

That's such a broad question that can't be answered. People have different driving styles, distances traveled, where they live ie in the mountains etc... It'll all have different affects on how long the brakes last.

People argue this but Porsche Etc still use drilled rotors on their stock cars. People say that they were drilled and slotted for gas and blah blah blah back in the day. But Im getting blanks. Blank Brembos Intrested in hearing more on pads though...

1. Cross Drilled / Slotted rotors are for looks now. They had uses back then but now, it's just a money maker. Yes performance cars still use them but it's because of the mentality.

2. For the street, you'll always do better with blanks and pads made for the street. Most rotors will do (even duralast). They're so cheap once they wear out just buy new ones.

3. I think a good compromise for a street pad are axxis ultimates, ebc greens, hawk hps or +'s. hp + 's are getting to the edge of street drivability since I can feel them "warming up" in the morning.

Last set of rotors I bought were from NAPA. ~$22 each.

I had HP+ pads and they ate up my rotors pretty good. They were great, but like petern said, performed better when warmed up. I bought another set of NAPA rotors and switched to HPS pads
