Brake lights dont work at all - Honda Prelude Forum

I have just noticed that all of my brake lights do not work. LED spoiler as well. Should this be connected to the Shift lock in the shifter when having to shift out of Park? That does not work as of a week ago, I have to place a key in the shift lock over ride to shift the car out of park. Is there a way to fix that or is that a part I have to replace?

I have checked all fuses and there isnt one that relates to the brake lights. Unless I am missing something.

I am not getting any lights on the dash warning me of anything.

First thing is to get the brake lights working again. I dont want to get into any accidents!

Please Help!!!

sounds to me like the sensor on the brake pedal is bad. or may need adjustment. IIRC that sensor not only turns your lights on but sends a signal to the locking mechanism for the shift lever.

How do I adjust the sensor? I see a plug/wires leading to something that looks connected to the brake pedal.

loosen the jam nut, the ones thats visible. the one on the other side is welded and wont move. screw your sensor in a few more turns till the little nub on the sensor is pushed all the way in and is in contact with what engages and disengages the sensor on the pedal. its usually some sort of little rubber nub.

Yeah, I found the switch. Its dead... I guess I gave to call my friend over at honda to see if he has the part.

Called Honda dealer and they have the part in stock. Its $69.66 I will try to post a picture of the part.

IT WORKS!!!

Thank you! I replaced the swich and the brake lights started working. The main test was to see if it sent the signal to the shift lock solenoid and it did!
Man my girl was excited. She thanks everyone on the forums.

I thank everyone here as well, I wouldnt have been able to fix this without your knowlege base in these support forums.

I will post the pic of this brake swich soon, I still need to upload to my computer from the digi.

no problem. that's what we're here for. glad it was something simple and not a shorted wire somewhere. those are a PITA.
