My Targa RHD conversion project - USDM 96 vtec

as the title says i bought a camera today. i decided it was about time i
caught up on documenting my progress on my project car. finding
someones camera to take a few pictures isnt ever really convenient so i had
lots of catching up to do.

so without further ado: from the same guy that brought you the original
seamless hybrid dual armrest center console. here are the first official
pictures of my lastest waste of hard earned cash.

enjoy.

WAIT A MINUTE! WHAT THE HELL IS THAT??
|
\/

NO! HE DIDN'T!!

|
\/

Yes, yes i did.
WHAT THE HELL!! THATS NOT ALL???

|
\/

well now that the shock is over... this came in today... im so excited... ill be
able to roll down both windows from my newly claimed diver side. YAY!

OK THATS ALL YA GET

its been a long painfull process aquiring all the parts i need to finish
everything... so i finally got started on this rhd and targa conversion about 3
weeks ago, progress is slow working 55 hours a week, not much time left to
play with my cars. hopefully my seals will be in soon so i can make sure
everything is water tight then when im sure that im happy with all that ill get
the windows in and put my interior back in it. so if anyones got carpet in really
good shape and black send me a pm or email. all im short on in the interior is
the carpet and well i havent decided on seats just yet... ive got lots of wiring
to sort out and plenty to keep me busy so im in no hurry to get the interior
finished. and i still need to get the block finished so im just glad i got a beater
lude to drive to work. its going to be a while. unless i quit my job anyway.

Nice! I did a little interior work last week and I know how crazy into it you can get... that job looks like a real monster.

BTW, isn't that a passenger-side switch panel you're holding up?

You have courage to tackel a big project like a Targa roof conversion. The RHD drive swap is admirable too. Can't hardly wait to see the finished results! Stay comitted it's going to be awesome. ~ Brett

yeah a roll cage is planned, so even after i cut the top of the door window
seals out there will still be the bar on either side of the car for the cage. SO
technically it wouldnt be COMPLETELY open, but then to those unaware the
prelude never came in a targa it would only look like i added a cage to it.
regardless it will be a whole hell of a lot more open than the huge sunroof
that only opens about 1/2 its length, even with the 2 bars of the cage up
there

im just glad ive finally got all the welding finished, the hard parts done and
now i just have to wait for the seals so i can make the fine adjustments with filler or whatnot.

and yeah thats a driver side panel for the jdm lude. the car is now RHD so ill
need that. it just came in the mail today, as well as my new power window
motors. and my del sol rear power window. YAY! Today was like christmas!

well i put the interior panels back on the underside of the targa, mostly to
check fitment issues if any and then put the rear trim on for the support
beam.

then took a few shots of the car with its top on.

Dude those things are nice, good idea. In a Del Slo if you open the rear window with the top closed you get a gentle air circulation and almost no added noise. Rear window is still in your car, I'm wondering how this will go in.

always, i just hope my other lude will start in the morning, i blew out all my bulbs on my halogen spot lamps so i was using the brights

as far as the delslo window, its just going to open up to the trunk space... the factory window will still be there. with a wall just behind the front seats making it a 2 seater, youd have room for just about anything in that trunk =) not to mention a pretty sweet way to get in the trunk space from the cabin, i mean you know our rear seats are useless anyway, right now ive got 2 jackets back there and god knows what else. all it is, is an eyesore. so whats the point of having it there, its onlly a trunk in plain sight

Are you going to use it as a daily driver? Because now is your golden opportunity to put some sound deadening material on the firewall.

That is one crazy project. Just curious, did you fab that T-top or is it an OEM del sol T-top? Because the interior panels on that T-top look 100% OEM. Nice work! Can't wait to see it finished.

the targa top is from a del sol, as are the seal jams... i had a junkyard cut the roof of the del slo off where the a pillars meet the fenders and at the same place in the back. i cut what i thought i needed out of that top half of the del slo. the targa had to be widened about 3 or so inches on either side to fit...

i decided to use the del slo as the donor as i love the ease of its hardware as far as removing and installing the top. simple yet effective hardware, unlike that of say a supra.
