Look there is no such thing as reliable when talking FI. Next if money isn't an issue then first thing first rebuild your block and check all your seals (save you time later) then buy a Tial 35mm wastegate (best with the T4) the deltagate that comes with most kits is junk mine spike twice and blew an engine. Then start saving a lot more money cause you will need it down the road. I wish I could say once you get it all everything will be fine but the truth is it won't so be prepaired. I had to sell mine it became to much money for a married man. Good luck

Yeah if money is no object why would you not rebuild your entire engine? Make it bulletproof for turbo, standalone fuel management, lots of tuning, and nothing but enjoyment when it's done.

first off i would do what everyone else is saying to do..... build your engine up before you go turbo so you won't have as MANY problems, i would also look at fuel management such as aem or hondata and bigger fuel injectors (440-550cc).

right now i have the kit that f-max sells for our 4th gens. and it's pretty awesome. i have a .63 ar t3/t4, 35mm tial wastegate, the mf2 fuel stuff, hks bov, and the intercooler + piping. so far i haven't had any problems but i've only had it on for about 4.5 weeks now. i'm boosting about 7.5 psi and it's running really good. i tuned the fuel to around 12.3-12.5 at wot with a wideband, and i'd have to say that that has really helped.

if i was to do it over again i would get a custom kit and just use the intercooler + piping and the manifold + downpipe from f-max. then get some fuel management and a greddy bov. oh and don't forget the tial wastegate. i hope this helped you..... sorry for rambling on about my setup but i think it's good to hear about what other fi luders have and what they think they should have done........

peace

h23atsi, are you running 7.5psi on a stock block? How was the installation of the fmax kit?

I have a general question about the fmax setup. Can you eliminate the 2 additional injectors they have in their setup as well as the mf2 fuel management and rather just use a hondata/aem standalone with bigger injectors?

yeah i'm running on a stock block with a thicker head gasket that lowered my comp to about 8.8.1. the installation of the f-max kit was very easy, it only took me about 1.5 days to get it done. to get it running well and tuned took about another week and 1/2 but that's another story . it was mostly tuning that took so long, i just street tuned it with a wideband.

the only reason i suggested getting so many components from f-max is b/c of their quality and fitment. their manifold is awesome and they now give the tial wastegate instead of the deltagate, and their intercooler piping hooks right up with no problems. the only thing i had to move aroung was the power steering lines b/c they were in the way of the intercooler piping.

as far as the fuel thing goes you can tell f-max not to put the injector bungs on the intercooler piping and just go like you said and get the hondata/aem with bigger injectors. i would suggest doing that although i really do like the mf2......... i just want something like the hondata or aem. i'm just going to wait until my engine goes or spring and just do the buildup all at once.
hope this helps with your journey towards fi!!!
peace

Can you order straight from f-max and customize the kit as you want it? If so, I'll have to contact them about that and see what the price is without the mf2, injectors and headgasket/msd.

h23atsi, you said the fitment was good. Does that mean that you didn't have to do anything like shaving motor mounts and such to make it fit? Does it fit okay with the stock radiator? Does the intercooler fit w/o modification of the stock bumper? Thanks

slo-mo: yes you can order straight from f-max, that's probably the only way to do it if you're ordering individual parts.

i'm assuming the regular turbo they give you will fit fine (.48 ar) but i had to shave a little of the motor mount, no more than half an inch for the turbo to fit well on the manifold. the only thing i had to do with the radiator was remove the fans to put the turbo in, but you really don't have to do that as i've taken the turbo off and put it back on w/o that step. i would just recommend shaving the bigger of the two fans b/c the compressor side of the turbo might have a little trouble fitting. for the intercooler you're going to have to shave a little off the bumper to make it fit but that's not really a big deal, takes about two seconds.

i hope i answered all the questions, as for how long the engine will last i'm hoping it will last at least till jan. so i can have the money to build the engine. i'll keep you guys updated as to how my engine is doing
peace
