Body work

Im about to buy a 93 lude with a h23 swapped into it , has around 180,000 km on the car.

Should i replace the rear quarter panels or just patch them ?.. Not the whole panel is bad , just the part where the panel/bumper colides together.

To do it right you have to cut the part that's rusted out and weld on a piece of a donor quarter panel, and spot weld it.

Otherwise the rust will be back before you know it.

I was going to simply grind it all down, bondo, prime etc, and paint, but it would come back in months. A buddy of mine did his, and said within 6 months it was right back. Not worth all the work if it'll come right back that soon. Do it right the 1st time.

You know where i could get a quarter panel and cut it out ?..

Can't i just take a peice of Sheet and trim it and weld it there ? Would it do the same thing.

Junk yard, and there's places that sell donor 1/4 panels. But yeah sheet metal works fine. If you go over to a hardware store like Ace and tell them what you're doing they sell small pieces of it that works well on cars. Last time I checked it was pretty cheap too. A 2'x2' piece of it was like $16 at Ace. Get some that you can bend on a work bench with some tools to get the little bend around the wheel well.

Shops quoted me around $600 to do this kind of work. I'm just waiting for a little while to do it myself this summer.
