Hey everybody. Well, the crank broke in my motor yesterday.
I have a 94 Si and I'm considering doing a vtec swap. I've spent hours searching through the posts and have found some good places to buy an engine package, but most of them are foreign or on the West Coast. I live in West Virginia. Do you all know of any reliable and reasonable dealers on the East Coast? BTW, any new news on Osaka? Good prices, but I've read bad things in the past.
One other thing. I commute an hour to school every day and I felt like running a constant 4000 RPM on interstate was hard on the car. Is the gearing much different on the vtec? (I run about 4100rpms @ 80 mph.)

Ya, I pulled the oil pan and moved the flywheel back and forth. The crank and first cylinder rod moved while the rest of the crank didn't. Also, several metal shavings laying in the bottom of the pan. Not good!!!
I'm looking at a package deal from hmotorsonline.com. I've read some good things about him. Anybody care to comment? Also, I'm a little nervous about this swap. I need this car to last me 3 more years through law school and I need dependability because I'll be moving out of state. Do you all think it'll be ok or would I be wise just to go back to the H23?
That is exactly how I got my swap. I am going on my third year with the h22 and it seems to be running like a champ. I mean it had 40k when i got it so thats like merely a fraction of a honda engine. Yes the h22 will be revved on more but it is also designed for that. so the realiability issue kinda goes to how well you maintain your vehicle. They are very durable strong motors when they are used for normal applications. Under FI or something if not built up correctly then you will decrease the life. IMO. Hope this helps and good luck. Just think how cool it will feel for the first time the vtec kicks in...... fffffffrrrrrrraaapppppp
I don't know where you are in West Virginia, but you might not be too far from IAS (Import Auto Salvage), which is located in NC. They are typically regarded as the best dealer of engine swaps, pretty much everyone has nothing but good things to say about their service and products. Their prices are higher than a lot of other internet dealers, but you get what you pay for.
As for Osaka, I would still be cautious. PM me if you want to hear my horror story (its been 2 months, and they still havent shipped the parts I was promised). Do a honda-tech search for Osaka and you will find oodles of stuff about them.
Hey man if you want to deal with Osaka, for $100 I'll go to their warehouse and make sure everything is right before they ship it I'm only a few hours away...
hi if you need engine swap , are you near college park? they have a shop over there and i did my swap there. the shop is AM east coast engine tech. they did nice work.
JC_lude-- I don't know where college park is at. I'm going to do the swap myself (cut down on labor costs). Besides, my brother owns an automotive service center, so I kinda have mechanics at my disposal. Thanks for the info. Do they have engine packages though?
red92s--Does AIS have a website? If their not too expensive, I probably would save in shipping costs. Might be better than shipping from CA. I live about 3-4 hours from anywhere in NC. Thanks for the info. I like sub enclosers! That might be my next purchase!
Satan_SRV--Thanks for the offer, but I think I'm gonna steer clear from Osaka. I'm kinda up against a wall with time and I need good parts. Its my only transportaion.
Matt--Thanks for the reassurance. If I can just get some quality parts now, I'm going for it. I'm going to try to order tomorrow from somewhere.
