Got bored up here doing my internship, and I've never liked all the gaps and cracks when using an aftermarket stereo mounting kit. So, I started blending everything into the stock piece, which required coming up with a revised HU mounting scheme. I still need to tighten up the gaps between the trim and face plate a bit, but that should be pretty simple. I'll probably end up getting rid of the seam around the cig. lighter as well:
nice. It would be cool if you could blend the shifter console area to the armrest area, but it would make it practically impossible to remove i believe.

I thought about doing that, and I think I actuallly could blend in the gap directly in front of the shifter, but yeah, connecting it to the arm rest portion would necessitate removing the seats to get it in.
All done. Decided I didn't like the cig. lighter so I smoothed that out as well. I never really use it, and have relocated a 12v socket underneath the dash just in case I need one. Got all the gaps close enough to look good, but wide enough to allow the face to function properly.
I just mounted it like 5 minutes ago. The texture actually matches the shifter console pretty well (and I just used cheap bumper paint from the auto parts store). However, it's dark outside and my camera is dead now. I've got some more console modifications planned, just as soon as I get my hands on a 94+ console.
Nope, it was called "bumper black" or something along those lines . . . made for repainting exterior bumper surfaces. The surface is kinda speckled and not very glossy, much like the OEM shifter console. I never understod why Honda chose to use contrasting grain patterns on the console (smooth around the shifter, vinyl for the armrest piece).
I'll be hanging onto the CD player for awhile. It's a nice Alpine unit made a few years ago. Does everything I need at the moment: CD, MP#, sat. radio, Aux input, etc and has no internal amplifier to muck up sound quality. The CD player is removable, but it can only be removed from the rear, which is also a theft prevention measure.
I used a product called "liquid plastic" that is essentially a semi-ridgid plastic repair substance. You can buy it from www.hzemall.com or a company called Duramix sells a product (4040) that has similar properties.
