Hey,
I recently had my motor rebuilt, and of course my timing belt, and balancer belts was replaced. Now I can hear a whinning that increasesin pitch the higher I rev. It is kinda annoying when yo rev, and have this nice deep sounding engine, with a high pitched electric tone ontop. I think it is from the belts being to tight? Anyone else have this proble after getting the belts replaced? I felt my timing belt, and it seemed to have proper tension. Can the Balancer belt be making the noise? I wanna get rid of it, cause it is so annoying.
Thanks in advance,
Josh
not alternator whine, right? super high pitched electronic sound.. hear it louder w/volume high on radio and lights on..
hard to diagnose noises over the net
It sounds like the belt tensioner is adjusted too tight. When I had my timing belt, drive belts, and tensioner replaced, I could here a whine that became louder as the RPM's increased. It sounded almost like a supercharger whine.
If this sounds like what you have, then get it adjusted as soon as possible. If it is too tight then it could cause the tensioner to wear out prematurely.
I never had mine fixed because I rarely drive the car. Eventually the sound stopped but I think it is only because it is slowly wearing out due to the wrong tension. I was just too lazy to bring it back.
Hey,
No it is not altrenator whine. I have that too I think it is my belts being to tight. HOw much do you think honda would charge to retension the belts?
Thanks,
Josh
Hey,
So is the belt too loose or too tight? Is it the timing belt or the balancer belt? I was looking through my helms, and you can't adjust the tension of the belts o n a VTEC engine, cause both the tensioners are spring loaded. So they should auto tension. Anyone know how to adjust them, or how much honda would charge to fix it?
THanks,
Josh
Hey,
I didn't install the belt a shop did. How would a belt tensioner work on the timing belt tho? It is suppose to be auto tensioned. I can't even find a spec for the tension of a timing belt in the helms. Also Which belt is mostlikly to tight? The timing, or the Balancer belt?
THanks,
Josh
Hey,
I just called honda, and they said it would be 70 dollars an hour. Also said it would take them 2 hours. Then I called the shop that rebuilt my engine. They said that there is no way to make that noise go away. He said that sense it is auto tensioned, then won't go away. Anyone know who is right? I really want the noise to go away. It is REALLY annoying! I am gonna go down to the shop that rebuilt my motor, and he said he would try taking off the auto tensioner, and trying to fix it. He said it prolly won't do anything tho. Anyone know where the tension is suppose to be? I mean is it suppose to be looser on the side toward the front of the car? Cause ususllay the leading edge is looser right?
Thanks,
Josh
just got my 70k maintenance, replaced belts, etc... and they found out that the timing belt tensioner was broken so they had to replace it... i get the whinning sound now also... but the previous tensioner was leaking oil.
I just had my tensioner belt and the auto-tensioners replaced, and I get that whine. The mechanic told me this whine is entirely normal when they're new.
sounds like it's normal to me since most of us here had our belts / tensioners serviced and then we got the sound... maybe it's true... it might just disappear.
