Battery Relocation Problems HELP!!

I need to relocate my battery to make room for IC piping (going in tomorrow)

Step 1 - put battery in trunk. Ran a 4gauge wire from battery to trunk floor, which I sanded to bare metal. Ran a 4 gauge to + battery terminal under the hood.

Step 1 results - ran good for a trip to the store. Next time i ran it, my A/F meter didnt work. A few minutes after leaving my apartment, i got a lot of hesitation. Couldnt put the car past 30mph. Broke down, put battery back under the hood. Still ran crappy. Tried it again later. Ran fine (battery in original location)

Step 2 - Put battery back in trunk. Ran a 1 gauge wire from negative battery terminal to big ass bolt next to right rear shock tower. Sanded to bare metal. Tightened it down like a MOFO. Ran a 4 gauge AND a 2 gauge from the positive terminal to the starter. Ran a 2 gauge from the starter to the fuse box.

Step 2 results - Ran great. Next day, on the way back from the store, AF meter is not working and car is hesitating again.

ARGHTHGHGHGHGHG whats wrong with this thing. Im thinking about just getting a civic battery and trying to make that work.

How new is your battery? Does your car start okay?

When I relocate my battery I'm going to use all 1 awg wire. I've heard people going as big as 0 but I think that might be a little overkill. Did you buy an actual relocation kit or did you just buy stereo wire?

If I were you I'd make sure all the connections were secure and see if that works. Sorry if I'm no help at all but that's all I can think of. Hope you get it working.

Maybe just try one of those little tiny batteries? Cant remember the name. . .

It might have something to do with the length of wire between the alternator and battery, like maybe it isnt charging properly?

thats a pretty good assumtion, seeing that it works for a few minutes. im thinking of trying a tiny battery, like from a civic. Im using a mix of speaker wire and heavy duty hard-to-bend house wire from Lowes. Car starts a little weak. I'll try searching for some tiny batteries

Usually wiring you use in your home is solid. To the best of my knowledge DC systems run better on stranded wire as there is more surface area for the current to flow on. I would try using all stranded (if the wire you used isn't) and see if that helps, also take the shortest possible route up to the engine.

hope that helps some.

[edit] NM, I wasn't thinking... larger guages in home do come stranded (a solid 1 guage wire would be hella tough to bend) I would still try to run one solid line and not mix... splices kill

Re-grounded to different spot on the frame and ran an extra ground to the stock ground wire. Acutally, two extra

Took it for a 10 minute drive. I didnt feel any hesitation, but my oxygen sensor seems to warm up a bit slower, and reads a tad leaner than before according to my A/F meter. Now when i floor it, its half green, half yellow.
