basic maintence

Im about to spend a couple days trying to get my car in like new condition. I plan on flushing/replacing all the fluids in the car, replacing cap and rotor, and cleaning off my air filter. What else should I take care of while I am working on my car? Thanks for any suggestions.

BeltS? There's only one timing belt. That's not really considered "basic". Not trying to flame you or anything .

Fuel filter, spark plugs and wires, valve adjustment, that's all I can really think of for the engine.

You might want to get an alignment if your car isn't driving straight, and check the air pressure in your tires...

hell yeah! my valves have been ticking like crazy for the past couple of days. got it adjusted yesterday at honda. and when i drove it, felt the difference instantly! the car pulled more and theres less hestitation now = more power.

you might wanna run a fuel injector cleaner while your at it. i do just to ease my mind. it can't hurt. check in, around, under the engine bay to see if your leaking any fluids. a good thing to do is always keep the engine bay and under the engine bay clean so you can tell right away when your leaking.
get some of that foam degreaser stuff and spray it EVERYWHERE!!!! then hose off.

i think valves should be every 60,000 miles?

yea, gotta be careful w/ that stuff. i cleaned off part of my engine once and i guess the fluid leaked onto the clutch. my car kept jumping as if the clutch was constantly being engaged and disengaged. only did it for about a mile or so.

also, careful w/ spraying that on the electrical components. get too much water on/in the distributor or the coil and ur car might not start

sheesh

so is it even worth risking to degrease the engine? besides the old tooth brush and simple green, what other methods are there to cleaning the engine?

well, dont go overboard w/ the stuff. do only sections of it at a time. today i used some of that foam stuff and a rag to get some crud off.

if there's a better way, i'd like to hear it

nope, the rag soaked up all the crud

the degreaser didnt really knock the stuff off the engine, it sorta just loosened it

sorry i forgot to tell you.

when i do it i cover the distributor with two plastic bags and my msd coil, and if you have a cone filter cover that too. basically cover anything that water can damage.

don't spray fuse box! or battery!

and don't spray water directly at it. you should be safe.

Full tune up

Tune up-

•Distributor cap and rotor
•Spark plugs
•Spark plug wires
•PCV valve
•Air filter
•Fuel filter
•Oil change and filter

Miscellaneous-

•Powersteering flush (use only Honda)
•Brake fluid flush(if brown)
•Radiator fluid flush(if brown)
•Tranny fluid flush

As for cleaning your engine bay. If you don't want it shiny after you clean it, use Simple green. It breaks up the dirt and grease but doesnt leave an oily look to your engine bay. Be sure to have a few brushes. Also, you will be able to polish up your head and block by using a non abrasive polishing tool. It looks like those car wash brushes that cleans the side of your car. You'll be able to hook it up to your drill or dremel. As for your hoses - Use a rubber protectant. Again, don't use any products with silicone since silicone deteriotates rubber.

you should also buy an intake cleaner and get a lot of built up carbon in your manifold out. just take off your CAI or RAI from the throttle body and spray a bunch in there. it's a major difference especially if you've never done it before.

i used an old toothbrush to do that once... thing came out BLACK. if the TB didnt look so hard to remove, i would have taken it off and cleaned it....

you wouldn't have to remove it. just open the butterfly and spray. it works great and only takes a couple of minutes

yea i know, but cleaning it w/ a brush or something would be better than just spraying stuff in there
