bump.. stopped at Honda to ask them what the repair cost would be... they said around $250... I'm sure I could replace it myself but I'm inbetween houses right now with no work space and tools, in a new area without a trusted shop yet. What do you guys think?
Its easy to change yourself, my only problem was having to buy a special tool for the screws because they have a weird head on them. It sucked having two diffrent keys but a keyless entry from pepboys fixed that. Order new ignition, use regular screwdriver to take off housing, use the special one to undo ignition, replace and off you go.Best place to buy a 92 Prelude ignition switch ??
Thanks! Nice find. My problem seems to be identical to the one in the second link, but I don't understand how the electrical piece could be causing the problem? It seems more mechanical. I guess I'll just buy the whole swtich since the lude has about 200k on it anyway.
Happened to me too, but replaced only the electrical piece.
Still using the same key
So I would advice you to try to replace the electrical piece, because as you say, stock is sexy ^^
yep switch, mine did this too. just simply pulled it appart and using pliers addjusted the shape slightly, did buy a spare but as of yet havnt had to use it. honda did do a recall on 5gen preludes to rectify this problem. the problem starts with an arc that melts the contact terminals. just bent them out abit more. you do not need to remove the ignition barrel

Where can I buy one, I have been looking at ebay but it looks like they might not fit or looks like if it was bought it wont fit. Does anybody have one for sale , shipped to 10465
