axle help

I bought two new axles and i'm trying to put them in but they only go in half way, and it still has another inch to go. was wondering if i should hammer it in or just keep on wiggling it until it actually goes in. Also what is the purpose of the snap ring?

i am assuming you are talking about that snap ring on the end, it's to seat the axle in the trans and to provide a slight bit of retaining tension. and when you took out the old axles, did it have the c-clip on there? cause with the only going half way in, it sounds like the old clip is still in there.

a buddy and me actually changed the passenger CV driveshaft yesterday. We hit it a little with a rubber mallet a few times till it clicked and went all the way in.

when you say the clip do you mean the snap ring? Because the old snap ring came off with the old axle.

I always just used a rubber mallet or big hammer and a block of wood to persuade the axles to go all the way in. I've done this four times w/o issue.
