Alright, this is a 94 Si Automatic, for your information. However, my question is more universal.
Simply, what are your guys' experience/knowledge on the reliability/life span of a 4th generation Automatic tranny (I'm guessing the 4th gen auto tranny is the same in the S, Si, and 4WS trims)? I'm trying to surmise a realistic idea of what to expect out of my tranny. Right now it's got a 124k and still does a good job. It's not perfectly smooth going into second (not major problem at all, though) but all the other gears go in great.
Most of my research has been asking questions to Autotrader Prelude sellers (and believe me, I've sent quite a few emails over the years :P) as far as the Auto tranny is concerned. So, maybe some of you guys with a non-bias sales agenda attitude can give me more straight answers. Thanks.
my lude i guess you could say shifts hard too going into second, but i usually floor it going into that gear and it shifts hard, normal driving, I would say it doesnt do it. But my brothers auto. accord at 210000 miles would slip going second too. Imports dont generally have great automatic transmissions, like domestics.

i used to have an auto lude, it was a 94si, it had 144k on it when the motor blew, i got a 5 speed lude then, i did keep the auto trans and torque converter tho, so if ya ever need one or jus wanna get one to have built let me know...i would kinda like to get it outta the garage, lol
Great thread --nice to know about other auto tranny ludes out there and their mileage as people tend to say Auto Honda's aren't that great, and due to the SS auto tranny on the lude, lude auto's tend to have a bad connotation to them. blah.
Mine's great, no problems besides maybe a little throttle response but that could be due to a loose valve or just needing a tune up, or because it's a LOW power 135 S, lol Or it could be simple because of it being 4 longer gears that it hesitates a little.
Low mileage for a 94 S, just hit 105,000 miles last week, owned it since it had around 74,000. Tranny's been exactly the same these past 3.5 years.

I work at a honda dealership, i have seen 4ths come in with 200,000 miles on them. As long as you take care of it(do regular trans fuid changes, frequent if your beating on it) the trans will stay good. Start doing stupid ****, like neutral drops, and you will kill it.

Trans fluid changes = tranny flush? Because I hear once you hit a certain point doing a tranny flush can actually hurt the car by removing buildup slush that's holding parts together in the tranny or you can get buildup in the lines stuck.
I'm at 105,000 and have debated on doing one myself...
Replaced my tranny fluid with genuine Honda ATF Z1, after changing my half shaft and the car shifts so much smoother and maybe it's just me but the car feels like it accelerates through 1st and 2nd a lot quicker. Who knows, but my car has 105,000 on it, it's the 1st tranny fill I've done since I've had it at 74,000 miles and it worked VERY nice
WOW! Thx for the pic. The most miles I've ever seen on a 4th gen lude was low 200's, like 210-220K. Same tranny, right? Just been "serviced" a few times? That's bad-a$$
