ATTN: anyone who's done the JDM h22 swap!

Im ready to do the full swap on my 4th gen S lude..
I have a few questions for anyone whos done the JDM swap:

1. Will it pass emissions inspection? (i live in fairfax, Northern VA)
2. If you've done the swap and passed inspection what state?
3. can i still use my DC Sports Catback exhaust after the swap?
4. will the f-max turbo kit work with this engine?
5. will standard USDM h22 bolt ons be compatible with this engine?
6. what parts do you recommend i add/replace when i do the swap (my current engine has 105k miles)

7. what will i need to make my car go atleast high 13s with this setup?

okay thats all for now ! hey looks like ive asked enough questions here to make a JDM h22 swap FAQ.

thanks for the help!

i dont know if anyone else has smogged their jdm h22. but if you wanted to TRY, you'll need to get all the usdm emissions parts, there is a starter air valve that is blocked off on the jdm h22. just get one from a usdm h23 or h22 and it will fit. thats the only thing i know off hand. the jdm has 10.6:1 compression and the usdm type r has 11:1. it MIGHT pass. so far mine hasn't....in pennsylvania. i smogged mine and my NOX came out double the limit. but that was with 240 cc injectors, now i have the jdm factory 350ccs and have yet to attempt another smog.

as for fitment of the jdm h22. you'll need a usdm h22 distributor. either use a usdm fuel rail, or have a custom fuel line for the jdm fuel rail. the wiring harness will be cut and you'll need a LHD usdm harness, h22 or h23 will work. with h23 you'll need to wire the vtec yourself.

i dont know much about the prelude s and its motor mounts but everything SHOULD be the same. get the vtec tranny, gears are much closer. motor and tranny should drop right in.

dont know about the turbo regarding the f22 and h22.

i have a catback on my si 4ws and fits fine with the vtec header/downpipe

a good jdm motor and tranny will propel you to mid to low 14s. i know one prelude running a factory jdm h22 and usdm tranny at 14.2 on the 1/4. i dont know what tires he had but should that time be on street tires, a pair of drag radials will definitely be enough to get this guy into the 13s.

choose your jdm motor wisely. there are bad ones out there that outnumber the good ones. a little more money now is better than a lot more money down the line....tu sabe?
